Our First Car – Scrapbook Layout

Hey there everyone,

Another layout to share today.

This time i got my fingers messy as I played with some Cosmic Shimmers sprays! FUN FUN FUN!

I thought it was about time I scrapped about our first car. Most people probably dream about getting their first car when they are about 16 -17 years old, but no, not me. I never actually got off my butt to even start to learn to drive until this year! Whoops, i’m ten years behind the game! Meh, i don’t care!

Even though I was 27, not 17, it was still just as exciting when we went to go car shopping! I was like a big kid, almost hyperventilating at the fact that we were going to bring home our first car. Eeeek!!

No more walking into town in the thundering rain!
No more bored days at home.
No more going into Guildford because it was something to do – now we can go anywhere we want. See new places, have new adventures, picnics, forest walks, drive to the airport!!! AwESoMe!!

And so we picked one. A little Renault Clio. And I love it! I’m sure it will get plenty of scrapes and bumps and bruises, but it’ll always be our first car!

So this layout isn’t one of my clean and simple layouts, but is a bit more carefree. I just had fun when I was making it!

Journaling reads:
It was so exciting going & looking at cars. We picked out a few that ticked the boxes & began to narrow down the choices. Can you believe the best one was teal – my favourite colour!! When we saw the number plate, it sealed the deal. A little Scottish Clio – the perfect choice! Proud as punch, I insisted that you took a photo of this momentous day – of me and our new car!

Feeling Yellow! ♥

by Lesley Oman on 18 June, 2010

Nothing quite like the colour yellow to get you into the summery mood! Its the colour of sunshine, sand and sunflowers, bananas and buttercups…oh, and this card! ♥

This stamp has been lurking in my stash untouched for quite nearly three years. Bought in a random toy shop on our honeymoon, i was so thrilled to find a shop that sold (a limited amount of) stamps that I simply couldn’t not buy this set of clear stamps of teddy bears. To be honest, some looked a little mis-shapen and odd, but this little dude (or dudette, i can’t quite tell) seemed to jump out at me when I was making this card.

The papers are from two different collections from two different manufacturers, lemonade by Basic Grey, and Bloom and Grow from MME, but i love the way they compliment each other. ♥

Thanks for popping by, and don’t forget you can leave me a comment here.

Teacher Appreciation Week at Hungry Heffy Crafts

by Lesley Oman on 25 May, 2010

I remember in high school, there was one particular teacher that stood out, head and shoulders above the rest. She was kind and understanding, and never made any of her pupils feel self conscious about asking questions. She seemed to create a sense of calm, and even the most tempestous students were turned to obedient little lambs in her class room. She would recognise struggling students, and work hard with them on an individual level to ensure their development. She would buy the whole class creme eggs at Easter time, and lollypops on a hot day. We all loved her class, because she made learning less of a chore. She made learning fun.

On the other hand, I’m sure I could entertain you with the long lost of quirks some of my other teachers possessed. Like the teacher who had a bin called Lucy, and who cried when the bulb blew in his overhead projector (called Rufus BTW). Or the one who would walk around with a ruler in her hand so that she could check that the girls’ skirts were an acceptable length. These such teachers who perhaps preferred to ‘teach’ from a position of power, or out of fear. And although some teachers I liked more than others, I have come to the realisation that each and every one of these individuals played a part in making me become the person I am today, whether through their kindness or their discipline, their understanding or their iron rule.

And so we all have had teachers, in school and throughout life in general, but lets ask ourselves ‘do we ever really appreciate the teachers we have when we have them?’. Probably not, or at least not as much as we should. It’s almost as if you only realise how much you appreciate something when its suddenly gone.

So this week I want to hold a Hungry Heffy Crafts teacher appreciation week! I want to share a selection of Thank You cards especially for all those teachers out there that deserve our thanks. A thank you tribute to the teachers of Brookeborough Primary School, of Collegiate Grammar School and even of Stirling University, each of which have left their educational print on my life.

Thank You All.

Let kick off the teacher tribute with the first card! Every one knows that teachers and apples go hand it hand! It’s a well known fact, and a theme you’ll recognise through out the week to be honest. So heres a super quick card using an apple stamp from this cool ‘farmers market’ stamp set form Basic Grey.

I’ve gone for bold, bright colours to compliment the clean style of the card, colours very reminiscent of early school days – after all its these such primary colours that are the first ones we learn to distinguish.

I’ve stamped the apples using fired brick and peeled paint distress ink, and then added in a little stalk on each one using a fine liner marker pen. I also used a fine liner to colour the little pips. The thank you border stamp is from this stamp set from heroarts, and is perfect for cards like these.

Tomorrow is another day, and that means another teacher card to share, so i’ll see you then!

Squirrels or Monkeys?

by Lesley Oman on 23 May, 2010

I promised you a video, but unfortunately i am having issues with YouTube. I have decided to stop fighting against machines for now, and try again later. Sorry about the suspenseful delay! But instead, I’m sharing a card I made last week.

Let me tell you a cute story that always makes me smile. ♥

I was lucky to go to a University which was built upon a beautiful lake, and had scenic, green, grassy areas; perfect for picnics and walks. The Uni grounds was full of ducks, swans and of course, squirrels. The squirrels were so used to seeing people go by, that some of them had absolutely no fear! They would come right up to you, and I always loved seeing them share the campus with us students, and always kept an eye out for them on my way to class.

One year my mum and dad came to visit, and brought my nephew who was only about 3 or 4 years old at the time. Whilst walking through the uni grounds, he points suddenly to a tree and exclaims ‘Look at that monkey Auntie Lesley!!‘. To which of course, I replied: ‘oh, I think that might be a squirrel actually’. His reply: “No Silly! It’s in a tree isn’t it, Auntie Lesley, so it must be a monkey!!‘. LOL. Isn’t kid’s logic simply amazing! ♥

And so I still call them monkeys at times. And today, I have a card with a ‘monkey’ on it to share with you all. A cute little birthday card, pieced together using stamps and stickers to create a little scene of loveliness.

Thanks for looking. Leave a comment here.
