Tips & Advice

Hello crafty kiddies!

On this Friday’s CCWM LIVE stream, I gave the viewers a choice – either a few Clean & Simple cards, or watch me alter stamped images for Halloween use. It seemed that the CAS option won!

The full streamed video is above but here’s a look at all three cards!

Note – this is a LIVE stream, so not an edited video. Therefore it is a long video- feel free to watch in chunks, skip through it, or put on in the background whilst you are crafting.

First off, i made a rainbow inked card, but used a dry embossed background. At the last minute I made this into a chibitronics light up card as one of my new viewers wanted to see Chibitronics in action.

I used the Unbearable Without You stamp set from Heffy Doodle to add the bear and the thought bubbles, and the little PULL ME tab (and heart) is from Heffy Doodle Interactively Yours stamp set.

I used a red chibitronics LED behind the heart. The ‘I love you, i mean it’ stamp is from My Favorite Things.

On the inside I added this perfect little sentiment form Technique Tuesday – i think it works great because of both the bright colours on the front as well as the light up element!

I was not yet finished playing with my rainbow inks. So here’s the next card

I used two stencils for this one, and just layered them up. You get a lot more mileage out of your stencils if you try this- and such awesome results. By the way, I am giving away one of these stencils (a new unused one) in my giveaway. Check out my previous post for details.

I used the Mama Elephant stitched landscape trio for the clouds and added some holographic embossing powder for a little glitzy shimmer, and this sentiment was perfect – also from Mama Elephant – its from the Unicorns and Rainbows stamp set.

I shared on my stream that i FINALLY got some ZIG clean color real brush markers. this was my first attempt, on some bristol smooth card. Practise makes perfect, but I think this Lawn Fawn unicorn turned out alright for a first try!

Next up, I wanted to use some of the gifts that I got for my birthday. The tulle was sent to me by Snow (@marblemine) and the butterflies by Dennice (watts-she-making.com) – THANKS GUYS! I also got an awesome stamp set from Maria (@mycraftwaytohappiness) but I will have to use it another time. <3

I also just got the outside in Lawn Fawn scallop rectangles from Lawn Fawn. Ohhhh they are so PWETTY! Also the Hooray is from Mama Elephant – both purchased with a gift card from Seven Hills Crafts.

To finish off I added the Congratulations from MFT and added some black pearls from Couture Creations and some dew drops from Honey Bee Stamps.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope that you will take a look at the video stream and perhaps join us for another Come Craft With Me LIVE session another time – Friday’s 9pm BST.

NOTE – no CCWM next week as I will be in Orlando hosting live workshops for Aladine and Art Deco. I might do some LIVE IG and FB videos, so keep your eyes peeled!

Hey there kiddos,

It’s a Heffy Doodle day today! WOOHOO! And don’t forget to check out the Heffy Doodle blog for today’s update – especially if you are a Kickstarter supporter who is stalking the mailman waiting for your goodies to arrive!

I have been so inspired recently with all the wonderful rainbow themed cards in my Instafeed – it’s because of the Rainbow Maker online class that is over at Online Card Classes.

I grabbed some of the bold images from the Heffy Doodle Interactively Yours stamp set and laid them out in my MISTI so they were all in a line, but with a little gap for my sentiment stamping. Next I picked out some colourful colours of Distress Oxide inks, and first stamped my line of images. I just LOVE the way these distress oxides stamp so evenly. Next I slid my paper over by 3/4 inch, and used the next colour of ink. I repeated this process until I had stamped a rainbow of colours.

Next I used my Lawn Fawn large stitched rectangle die to cut out a panel. I like to stamp first and then die cut the rectangle – this way I can central my stamping easier.

I added the HUGS in a bold black ink, and then had the idea to add a zipper element to my card! You know me… I love an interactive card! I layered this front panel onto some zig zag rectangle of black card and added a white heat embossed greeting onto it (from the Elephant of Surprise stamp set).

To finish the card, I added a cute elephant and cake, and coloured these in with Copic markers, and layered it up on another layer of black die cut card so the images really pop against the colourful background. A few black pearls and we are DONE!

Happy Crafting!

Hello crafty friends,
The chibi gang are having fun this week with a collaboration celebration between Chibitronics and Newton’s Nook.

Don’t forget to jump over to the Chibitronics blog to see all the fab projects and get links to more fun creations!

What’s more – Chibitronics and Newton’s Nook are each giving away a $30 starter kit and a $30 gift certificate. To enter to win please leave a comment on all the blogs and winners will be randomly chosen at the end of the week.

As soon as I saw this airplane stamp – Newton Takes Flight – I knew that I wanted to make a fun sky scene and use the chibitronic lights to light up the wings. I thought it would also be a great excuse to use the Chibitronics Effect stickers as well. These are fun additions that make your light flash, flicker and more. For this project I chose the pulse option – it worked great.

So if you have seen my work before, you know that I love an interactive card, and I had so many ideas for this card…. and in the end I pretty much did them all. I wanted to have a surprise pop up situation where the front section of the card opens up in a surprising way. I also wanted to make the propeller blade in to a spinning element, and on top of that, I had a cool idea for creating a fun switch. It took some time to wrap my brain around the engineering… but I never let that stop me!

So here it is..

You will see in the video that I started this time with the circuit. I wanted to make sure that my idea would work. I actually built my circuit onto a piece of vellum (that I had stamped with my plane image), which came in really handy later on in the video. I think I will do that again, for sure! It was my first time using the effect stickers so I found a template on the chibitronics website and used that as a guide – he’s a look at my circuit.

I use the little chibitronics stencil to help me get the placement just right – what an awesome little tool!
So my idea was to build a fun, unusual kind of switch. I wanted to be able to slide a cloud panel upwards in order to turn on the lights, and then slide it down again to turn it off. I almost can’t believe that I did it! BRAINPOWER FOR THE WIN! You will have to watch the video to see how it is achieved… I found it hard enough to explain in the video WITH visual aids, i’m not sure i should even attempt to explain it with just words.

I added some stamping to the front using the ‘flyng by to say’ stamp, and then on the inside I added some more Newton’s Nook images from the ‘Newton Dreams of Paris’ set..y’know…for extra fun. I couldn’t help but use the sweet Eiffel Tower stamp -and the teeny weeny hot air balloons -so adorable! I also added the word BONJOUR! [Note to self – book a flight to France before too long! 🙂  heehee]

Here’s what it looks like when you stand it up!

I added a little ink blending with a brush for some soft blue tones under the clouds, and finished with a few black enamel accents.

Thanks for joining me for this fun Newton’s Nook and Chibitronics collaboration. Don’t forget to visit the Chibitronics blog where you can get links to the other projects! You will want to see them – they are FABULOUS!

HAPPY CRAFTING!
