Other Craft Projects

Helllllloo everyone,

Finally, a project to share! Things have gotten a little slow over here in Pregnant Land, with waddles a-plenty and indigestion galore. Having a significant baby belly means that even little things are a lot more difficult to execute, and because of that, the transformation of my craft room has slowed down quite a bit.{booooo} Which unfortunately means that my crafty projects are not quite as frequent as I would like them to be….however, i am really excited to share a project with you today.

Okay, so i am definitely a paper kinda girl, but amidst the chaos of Christmas, New Year, & boxes galore, something inspired me to take out my sewing machine. To be honest it was probably the fact that my sewing machine was completely self contained, and i knew exactly where my fabric bag was…which is more than what I could say for the 7,243,213,122 boxes containing my crafty supplies.

A little idea had been growing in my brain for a few weeks anyway. One of our friends was due to have a little girl between Christmas and New Year, and I spied on facebook that the nursery had an owl theme. Loving the idea of owlies, I thought it would be a nice idea to buy her an owl plush to celebrate her arrival. After searchig online, and on etsy, I saw a few that were really cute, but I knew i could make one just as cute, if not even cuter! So i took a trip to the fabric store, doodled a few ideas on paper, then sat down to cut, stitch, and play.

And here’s the final product! I think it could be better, perhaps would be cuter if it wasn’t quite as tall, but on the whole I love the fact that this little sleepy owl has its own personality.

I was thrilled that my nesties cut the felt perfectly when i ran it through the cuttlebug – so this is how i made the eyes and i used a quickutz die for the heart on the back. I handcut the letter G, and stitched this on my hand, as with the eyelashes.

To give Little Miss Sleepy Owl a professional finish, I made a tag to compliment my plush gift. Using my wacom I doodled a little replica owl and threw together a tag claiming that this owl was handmade especially for Giorgia-Evie, who arrived safely into the world last week, after much anticipation.

and… I was lucky enough to see the wee angel and give her plush owl to her, and I was so delighted to get a piccy from her mummy Bex. How utterly adorable!

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope this is the start of a lot more crafting again!

Just a quick post to show off some photos we took at the Hobbycrafts show this Thursday. We had a fantastic time and met some really wonderful crafty people. Our Hungry Heffy Crafts Facebook page has even more photos so be sure to check it out. While you are there, don’t forget to ‘like’ our comment about our current competition sponsored by Craftwork cards, as there will be a prize giveaway to one lucky person from facebook. Remember, there are three ways to win in our current competition, so check out the full details so you can make sure you are doing everything you can to better your chances of winning! Competition now closed.

We had a slight set back at the start of the day, ugh! Flat tyre! The delay meant that we didn’t arrive at the NEC until the afternoon, and I wasn’t too impressed about missing out on some more crafty purchasing time, although I have to say that my feet still ached at the end of the day, so it was probably best that we didn’t arrive three hours earlier as we had planned!

I was thrilled that one of my first stops was the Meiflower stand. Meiflower specialise in crafty embellishments: bows, flowers, topper elements and above all my absolute favourite – metal charms! You have probably seen me use their charms in some of my projects – My favourite one is this love heart charm which is engraved with ‘made with love’. I’ve used it on this Home decor project, and this Anniversary card. I also love their butterflies, one of which I have used on this accessory holder. Mei, Shahid and Babs sure were busy, but later in the day we stole a few photos once we got near the stand. Here’s one which shows you a selection of their products (oh, lush!) and one of Mei crafting away!

We also met Richard from WOW embossing powders, and just look at how beautiful all those jars are! Yum! This photo makes me so very happy!

Here’s me with Leandra from Paperartsy. I love the artsy, collage style of Paperartsy stamps, they are so unique and definitely have a grungy style that makes me want to get inky. You will see i’ve used some of their Bricks & Mortar stamps on this scrapbook layout called ‘Life in the city‘ – aren’t those houses sooo cool and whimiscal!   Paperartsy have just realised a beautiful line of purple hued papers which you will love, so be sure to jump on over to their site to see their full range.

Here’s some of Leandra’s handiwork – aren’t these samples gorgeous?! Just breathtaking!

We also got to meet the wonderful Julie Hickey, who was spending the day demo-ing Craftwork Cards products on the Dolly Cottage Crafts stall. Thats right, the name probably sounds familiar because it is Craftwork Cards who are sponsoring this month’s prize giveaway. I’ll be showing you loads more of their products over the next few weeks, but thought I would whet your appetite by showing you what wonderful creations Julie has made with their lines.

We met a few other people too, and I have to admit I may have spent a few craft pennies during my time there! Don’t worry, I’ll be sharing my crafty purchases with you real soon.

The NEC Craft event is running until Sunday 7th November, so if you are near the Birmingham area, perhaps you’ll drop in for yourself and don’t forget to say hello to all our crafty friends.
