A Funky Camera Strap Cover

See larger image

I finally did it!!

:0)

I seen them a couple of months ago.

They made me take a long gaspy breath in. The only thought that was running through my mind was ‘me wants, me wants, me WANTS!!’

I think it was on Ali Edwards blog that I first stumbled across camera straps. Ali has sponsors and this particular time Ali was hosting a give away from one of her sponsors who hand-made and sold camera strap covers on Etsy.

I must admit I did a fair bit of browsing on Etsy, checking out the different styles and designs, and the more I looked the more I realised that I could easily make one myself! So during my last visit to Hobbycrafts, I picked up some pretty fabric so I could give a shot.

I really had no idea it would turn out so good and that i’d be so very pleased with the end result. Yeay me! Who knew that my sewing machine could be so obedient!?

I totally love the fact that now I have a little pocket to store my lens cap when i’m taking photos, as i have ‘misplaced’ this more than once, and I cant bear any more piercing looks from Craig. Now it has a home, and I will definitely look very funky when i’m feeling snap happy!

Excuse the poor quality iPhone photos. I’ve had this problem before. Taking pictures of your DSLR means NOT using your DSLR, and it doesn’t come out quite as crisp. I guess having a fancy digital camera has spoilt me

Check out some of these ones on Etsy that I also love….

Yum!

Good morning Ladies and gentle-peeps!

Cuteness Alert!! …. You’ve been warned…

Today I want to share a baby project. My friend from Uni Vanessa had baby Amélie at the start of the month, and unfortunately they are over in Northern Ireland so I haven’t got to see both the girls yet. Through Uni Vanessa was one of those friends that would be there when you needed her, would look after everyone, would make sure that we all cleaned up after ourselves, and kept us all in line: so I have absolutely no doubt that she will be the best mom ever!! Amélie is lucky to have V as a mummy, and I hope she grows up to be as generous, kind and as beautiful as her mummy…but then again, how could she not! ♥

And so of course, I’ve been crafting a little something for the little lady…

First can I say that this was not my original design idea, but was inspired by someone else’s project, but frustratingly, i cant for the life of me figure out where or when I seen it. It was likely on 2peas or scrapbook.com, but despite several attempts to find it, alas, I cannot. If you have seen it, please let me know as I would like to credit the original designer of course.

The frame itself is from Tesco, and cost about £6.99, so it really is not expensive, especially as it is perfect for this kind of project because there is a space of about 10mm between the mount and the glass, which means that I had the creative freedom to use 3d embellishments.

The six squares may look like punches, but i actually just used my ruler width as a guide to cut squares from my scraps {Note to self – really must buy a square punch!}. Top left is plain cardstock, then DCWV adhesive stack, then DCWV text stack. This paper actually had the word mother written all over it, and you can see i’ve cut off a piece that has the start of the word ‘mère’. The bottom row includes paper form DCWV glitter stack, pink cardstock ran embossed with a Cuttlebug folder, and a random piece of pattern paper for the last square.

Background is Swiss Dots Bazzill cardstock. Chipboard star is Heidi Swapp, Charm and silver cord is from MeiFlower. Chipboard A is form Basic Grey stamped with a Hero Arts wood grain rubber stamp. Metal clip is from Making Memories, and mushroom and birdie stickers are from Paperchase. Epoxy bubble is from EK Success, label is stamp from Tampo{maniak}, flowers from Prima and lace from Hobbycrafts. Chipboard tag at the top is Making Memories, with a brown card candy embellishment on top, from craftwork cards. The footprint ribbon is from Anita’s (Do crafts) and the circle underneath is a stamp from the Unity April 2010 KOTM, stamped using ‘Orchid pastel’ chalk ink and cut using a circle punch. Ghost acrylic heart is from Heidi Swapp and the butterflies are from a Martha Stewart punch. Buttons, gems and pearls are from my stash, some of the gems I coloured green using my sharpie markers. The name Amélie I wrote by hand. ♥

I also got the little bundle of joy a cute little outfit with the teeniest little booties you have ever seen!

♥ Amélie, I can’t wait to meet you in person. Welcome to this world, little one. Look after your mummy, and know that you will always be loved, even by those you don’t see every day. ♥ Love, Auntie Lesley. xoxo

Hi there crafty peeps. ♥

A week or two ago I shared a post about a present I made for my nephew Joshua – A Big Brother Toolkit. As part of the toolkit I included a T-shirt which had a logo and the text “Big Brother”. It took a little experimenting, but I found a great way of adding text to T-shirts whilst still achieving a clean, professional finish. And, its so very easy! So I wanted to share it with you!

First gather the supplies: A t-shirt, a piece of cardboard, alphabet stickers, non-stick craft sheet, masking tape, sponge applicator, fabric paint, circle craft punch, double sided sticky tape, ruler, tweezers, fabric marker (Black), brayer (optional).

Put the cardboard inside the T-shirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through to the back. This will also give a nice study working surface.

Figure out where you would like the text, and stick down a strip of masking tape just under where you wish the text to be. Use a ruler to ensure that it is level. Using tweezers, stick down the alphabet stickers where you wish them to be, then continue using masking tape to create a frame around the stickers. To make sure the stickers are adhered completely, use a brayer or leave heavy books on top for a few hours. [I’ve used alphabet stickers from Paper Trunk]

Now that we’ve added the masking tape and stickers, the mask is in place, so we just need to prepare the paint. Squirt a little fabric paint unto a craft sheet like this one from ranger. Alternatively you can use a normal ceramic plate or alternative slick surface. To apply the paint I used a foam brush, so tap this into the paint to get an even cover of paint onto the foam. [i’ve used tulip slick fabric paint, it’s inexpensive and works great]

Apply this carefully to the t-shirt over the letters, and ensuring that you stay within the masking tape frame.

Once you have applied all the paint within the frame, its time to add the chickies. Take a piece of lightweight cardstock and cover with double-sided tape. Next punch two circles into the card using craft punches (Careful- most punches are only intended for paper, so make sure not to break your punches). Remove the backing from the sticky tape and stick the whole piece of card to the t-shirt. Secure the edges with masking tape if necessary. [I have modeled the chicks on some stamps which were in my Unity Stamps Co Kit of the Month, Feb 2010 – as I used these stamps to create packaging for the other items in the Big Brother Toolkit]

When all the paint has dried it’s time to make the magic happen! Peel off the masking tape and then use tweezers to carefully peel off the alphabet stickers to reveal the text!

Because my chickies were yellow on a white t-shirt, I wanted to add an outline so they stood out a little more. Replace the card onto the t-shirt, lining up the two circles with the punched holes. Use a black fabric marker to trace around the rim of the card to create a circular outline. [I have used a fabric marker from Dylon]

All thats left is to add a little eyes and beaks to complete the chickies, once again using the fabric marker, and the t-shirt is finished! All you need is a model to wear it! ♥

I hope you might give it a try!
