Card Making

So heres the low down: had a ski accident in February, got sciatica in August, and thanks to a particularly nasty spinal disc herniation, i had to have emergency spinal surgery at the start of December. So i am still in recovery mode, but happy to be on the mend. Of course, it was all thanks to Mr Chatakondu- the best surgeon specialist EVER! Before the surgery, i couldn’t even stand up  (that means no crafting!) and straight afterwards, it was amazing how better i felt!

After I got home there were a few cards that I had already sketched out in my mind – a thank you card for Mr. Chatakondu, and a thank you card for the staff at Woking Nuffield hospital – who really were AMAZING! I will be sharing the second one with you soon – its a shaker card!

And, well, if you know me, i can’t resist a good pun, so what do i write on a thank you card for an osteopathic consultant?- ‘thanks for helping me get BACK to normal!’. (had-har-hahh!)

For the doctor i used a boy stamp from October Afternoon, – this little guy..

but after inking i removed some of the ink with my fingernail wrapped in a baby wipe. This enabled me to draw in the doctors coat with a fine liner copic multiliner.

I used the stitched rectangles die from Lawn Fawn to create the panel, and used some stars from Wplus9 to add some colour. I like using stars for boy cards, i think it looks really cute and adds more interest to the card. After stamping, and then transforming the guy into a doctor, i used distress inks to colour him in using the technique i show in this video: How to colour with distress inks.

For the greeting, i inset the word thanks using a paper smooches die, and added a little shimmer with my touch of stella clear glitter brush pen. its the perfect touch, even for a boy card!

I had a follow up appointment on Tuesday and i got discharged! yeay! Good that i am on the mend, but BOOOO to going back to work. I won’t get to craft all day anymore.

I hope he liked his card! It was only fair that i gave him a little of my handiwork seeing as he brought his A -game when sorting out my back!

Say hello to my little friend, mister whale!

Some of my friends are divers, so this cute critters of the sea stamp set from Lawn Fawn was an essential buy for me, and i keep coming back to them.

Im in the process of digging out all my cards that i made last year, but never really got round to photographing and sharing, so looks like you might get to see some more of my craftiness for a little bit! YEAY!

I really must get round to posting this card. At work Stef celebrated her work birthday before Christmas- that’s the anniversary of when she joined us at Regus.

I wanted something fun and bright and cute. I started with the balloons- i used some solid stamps to create the balloons and used some post it notes to mask off any overlaps. It didn’t work very well, as you can see some bleed at the top right, but i still think it looks cute, so i don’t mind. 🙂

This dog stamp set has been on my stash for many years but it’s still a winner! (Its from Woodware), and then i ravaged my stash to find some accessories to give my little puppy – and this party hat and gift boxes were the perfect accompaniment to this lil’ guy. I used a faber Castell brush marker to blacken the edges of these fussy cut images which make them look like they are supposed to be there.

and today, is actually the (actual) birthday of Matthew – one of our other team members, or as i say, part of our work family. I love ’em all. They are like my work kids! Happy Birthday mate!

Here’s the card i made for him – with this sweet Avery Elle Party Animal stamp set. I picked this up at my local scrapbook store, which was having a 50% off sale -so i managed to pick up a stash full of goodies, and also told them they need to stock more Avery Elle, Paper Smooches, Lawn Fawn and Mama Elephant. Hee hee!

For the balloons in the first card i used a dye ink, but had to stamp a few times to get a more even result, so for the balloon animal i used pigment ink – it worked better for me.

I cut a polaroid from white cardstock and backed this with vellum to create a soft background. I used the lawn fawn stitched rectangle die to cut out a rectangle of blue cardstock and then also cut out some stars from this panel. The stars i stamped with a grid design in white pigment ink, and the rest i stamped with blue ink to create a tone on tone effect. Of course a few sequins were necessary, even though this is for a boy. HEEHEE!
