Happy MANday Monday!

Today is a double whammy. My neighbour requested that I made a Christening card for her wee Grandson Albie but she also wanted me to put writing on a gift she bought him. Look: —>

Its a box that holds the certificate and also has a photo book built in to the lid. Its really pretty, and I thought the best way to add writing would be to design a insert to go into the framed section. So I spent a few hours this week playing with some digi scrapping. All the of papers used were freebies from various sources. (I never really do digi, so as a hindsight i realised that i should have taken a note of what all i used. Sorry. If you really want to know who they are from please drop me a message and I will go through all my supplies and figure out which ones i have used here)

Here it is close up, what do you think?

I don’t do a lot of digi scrapping -the last thing i made was Piper’s birthday invitation back in March. It is fun, but i think i would still rather play with real paper.

I wanted the card to coordinate with the design of the box, so I used a white base and used blues and black/ brown trims. Take a look…

I had printed out one of the digi cards that was too small for the frame in the box, so I had the idea to reuse some of the elements from that like the name frame and his cute little photo {just look at that smooshy lil face!}. I also printed the text ‘to a special grandson’ and ‘on your christening day’ from the computer just so i could get these just right. This way I can coordinate the colours and size and the perfect wording too. As I already had the computer out in the craft room it was easy enough to do this.

The black text paper is old. So very old. It has been my staple go-to paper for Christenings or other religious type cards, and I only have a teeny bit left. Worst thing is that i have no idea which company made it. Its really like a vellum with a silver foil print, so i had to mount it onto cardstock first to make it nice and sturdy.

Thanks for stopping by.

Its that time of year again.
Orange and red and yellow and golden brown.
Cinnamon and nutmeg and ginger.
Apples and chestnuts and PUMPKINS!

I’m pretty sure that if it was a competition, Autumn would totally win.

Even though I am on the wrong side of the world to call Thanksgiving one of my national holidays, we usually still celebrate it in our house. Every year we spend the day with our good friends Jeremy and Sarah and a gang of other people to celebrate gratitude. It’s so lovely to take a moment from the hustle and bustle of life, sit down and reflect upon all the things in your life that you are truly thankful for.

A few years ago I made a project to take to Thanksgiving Dinner, and it was really fun. I mean REALLY fun. I’m sure there were a few laughter induced tears as we read out the notes that each person had jotted down on their journaling card. Of course there was the usual ‘i am thankful for my wife, my family…’ but there were also a few unique, funny answers too. When I shared that project with you, I gave my viewers a chance to download the journaling card that i had made for the project (click the link at the start of the paragraph if you wanna go get it for yourself).

Last week as I drove along the tree-lined, windy British roads on the way to work, all of a sudden I felt Autumnal. The trees had exploded into vibrant colours and bright, rich leaves floated down through the air, falling like confetti onto the bonnet of the car. It was so beautiful…& I started to get excited.

Thanksgiving is on its way, and before I start thinking about the food side of things I wanted to make a project for the table this year. Once again I designed my own journaling card to use as the basis of the project, one for each person in attendance.

This time I have made a video tutorial which walks through how i made this project, so that you can make one too if you like. Kinda like a free craft class i guess. Also, just like the last time, you can download the journaling card so you can use this on your projects. All you need to do is to click on the sign up tab at the top and become a free member. This will give you access to all the free digital downloadable elements. Be sure to also sign up to our newsletter so that we can let you know when new stuff is available. Also, all newsletter subscribers are automatically entered into any competitions we run on Hungry Heffy Crafts. Great, huh?

Here’s the videos, I had to do them in two parts, and there are some more photos below that so you can see more of the project.

Remember Piper’s footprints? Remember her nursery? Well, I did promise that I would share another glimpse into my little angel’s sleeping quarters and here it is!

When I was designing her nursery (which seems like a lifetime ago, even though it was just a few months back) , I knew I wanted to have a white wall in the room that would display an array of photos and other fun stuff.

So I started buying photo frames, just cheap ones from discount stores. I figured Ii would paint them to be whatever colour suited best. I chose red. First I tried painting them with emulsion paint, but the frames had a waxy finish so it wouldn’t cover the wood completely as the paint pooled up. Also when the paint dried, it would scrape off really easily. Then I spent AGES sanding the frames to remove the waxy coating, and then painted them again. It still looked patchy and any parts which were tricky to reach with the sandpaper didn’t get covered with paint. So then I went to the hardware store and bought a tin of red plasticote spray paint. SUCCESS! I sprayed the frames outside over a couple of cardboard boxes, and I was surprised at how quick they dried. I gave them two coats and I am really impressed with the way it even stuck to the cheapo plastic flourish frame that i bought at the poundshop. It started as a really nasty, yucky pearly colour but now that its a bold, bright red it looks awesome. I kinda wish I had bought more!

Top left red frame: A rare and precious eureka photo moment taken by yours truly when Piper was 1 day old!
Top centre flourish frame: I love the way you can see all the wrinkles on her hand. Awwwwww! {taken by me}
Wicker heart: bought at a local garden centre…{love}
left black shadowbox frame: a set of foot prints set in salt dough, made at my local Baby Days group. Frame from Ikea
Wooden heart: This was a gift a few years back from my friend Rebekah. I think it was a Christmas tree decoration but I love it so much it stays out all year. Now it has a new home!
Centre red frame: A little project….see below.
Black Frame: A pressie from my friend Lindsey who took photos of Piper. I love that she has put more than one photo into the frame.
Right Red frame: One of the first photos taken of Piper with her eyes open, looking straight at the camera. {taken by Lindsey Jones}

Right in the middle of the cluster is a little project i’ve made with Piper’s first photographs- the ultrasound scans. I printed the three photos and three red blocks onto photo paper, then finished off the project by simply adding some embellishments and stickers. Couldn’t resist that Meiflower heart charm!

I’m not sure how many more frames i’ll put on the wall, i guess i’ll just add little bits as and when I feel inspired to make something {i’m thinking a pennant, or some rosette flowers…. }

Thanks for stopping by.
