Big Brother Tool Kit

Finally, I get to share my secret project with you. :0)

My brother Roger and Sister in Law Shelly have FINALLY had their baby, and have given me another beautiful nephew. I have been so very excited over the last few months as the due date has been creeping closer, and now he has finally arrived – baby Lewis arrived on Easter morning.

And of course as every doting Aunt would proclaim, he is absolutely adorable and makes my ovaries hurt just looking at his little squishy baby face. But, as a doting Aunt, I wanted to get my nephew Josh a little gift in celebration of becoming a big brother.

Often when a little brother or sister arrives, it can be tough on little ones that don’t understand the needs of a baby, and sometimes they can feel a little left out, especially when the hordes arrive to visit the newborn with arms full of baby gifts. So after a little reflection and brainstorming, I came up with the idea of making Josh a ‘Big Brother Toolkit!’ complete with items that will make him prepared for the new adventure of being a big brother.

So, here you go – a peek into Josh’s Big Brother Toolkit!

To hold all the bits and bobs, I managed to pick up a little bag at The Early Learning centre for the bargain price of £2. Its actually intended for carrying colouring pencils and colouring books – but it was perfect for this purpose. Result!

Upon opening the bag, a page of contents greets Joshua, to explain each of the items in the bag, and what they are for. If you wish to read what it says, you can click on the ‘larger image’ link below the photo.

First a certificate, because its now official – Josh is a Big Brother! I’ve made the certificate quickly in Photoshop using only free digital elements (variety of different sources).

A badge – well, everyone loves badges, right? Made using my badge-it, one of the bestest, sweetest Christmas gifts ever! (even though it is meant for kids….ssssshhhhhhhh!!)

A book – I would really recommend this book, it is sweet and is great when introducing a younger sibling into the family. Bought at Waterstones.

Two disposable cameras, just for Josh. Kids love cameras, and most of us have digital cameras now and we can be a little over protective and consider them too fragile for kids. So these cameras are for just for Josh to play with, I covered each of the boxes with coloured paper to match the packaging of each of the other items. I also made a little photo album for Josh to keep himself. I bought a small cheap photo album and took out the inside pockets, then added two covers using 6×4 patterned cardstock, and a strip of 7 gypsies gaffer tape as a binding.

A few extra items – a cuddly toy to play with his little brother, two wash cloths rolled up into little lollypop shapes, and a baby bath sponge. I’ve also put in a little circular box which can hold the bath sponge to keep it safe. Josh loves the bath, so I thought that he would make a perfect Bath-time Helper for Mummy and Daddy.

And finally – A big brother T-shirt (to wear with pride). An inexpensive T-shirt from a local store, and a little bit of creativity from me! I’ll probably do a post in the near future on how i’ve made the T-shirt because it took a little bit of trial and error, but sure was fun!

So there you have it – a Big Brother toolkit, which can easily be adapted for Big Sisters too. I have it on good authority that Josh loved his gift, and I can’t wait to see Joshua being a Big Brother in action. I’m off to book flights to N Ireland now, so I can go back to meet my newest little nephew, and see the rest of the gang.

Aren’t families fab!! ♥

Thanks for popping by, and leave me a comment here.

As we are approaching ever nearer to Valentine’s day, I thought I would share this layout that I’ve made for my cousin Hayley, of her and her boyfriend Glen. Awwwwwwww, don’t they look sweet together! You may recognize Hayley from this layout from my archives.

Last year she decorated her bedroom with a pink wallpaper with a luscious black and silver brocade over it, and the pink & black brocade page from the Hot Mama line from Glitz Design reminded me completely and utterly of her. So I used this page as the main design point of this layout, using my trusty paper punches.

So i’ve made this layout for her to display in her room as a piece of home decor. I hope she likes it.

A New Skill?
I have something else i want to share with you too. Can you see the digital elements on the photos? Do ya like ’em?? I made them myself. :0)

At Christmas our friend Jer showed me how much fun it is playing with a wacom. So i have kinda permanently borrowed his, and have had so much fun making lots of digital brushes. I have made loads, but haven’t got round to using a lot of them yet – so this is the first sneak of three of them ‘love’, ‘together’ & a love heart image. I love the way that I can use these in a way that looks like i’ve placed a rub-on on top of the photo.

Here is a quick image i threw together that shows the exact brushes better (with the addition of the word ‘cherish’)

I am seriously going to be doing some more doodling with ‘my’ wacom.

Thanks for looking & please leave me a comment here. And come back later in the week, as I have another video tutorial to share – making paper roses for cards and layouts!
