Techniques

Hey there kiddos,

It’s a Heffy Doodle day today! WOOHOO! And don’t forget to check out the Heffy Doodle blog for today’s update – especially if you are a Kickstarter supporter who is stalking the mailman waiting for your goodies to arrive!

I have been so inspired recently with all the wonderful rainbow themed cards in my Instafeed – it’s because of the Rainbow Maker online class that is over at Online Card Classes.

I grabbed some of the bold images from the Heffy Doodle Interactively Yours stamp set and laid them out in my MISTI so they were all in a line, but with a little gap for my sentiment stamping. Next I picked out some colourful colours of Distress Oxide inks, and first stamped my line of images. I just LOVE the way these distress oxides stamp so evenly. Next I slid my paper over by 3/4 inch, and used the next colour of ink. I repeated this process until I had stamped a rainbow of colours.

Next I used my Lawn Fawn large stitched rectangle die to cut out a panel. I like to stamp first and then die cut the rectangle – this way I can central my stamping easier.

I added the HUGS in a bold black ink, and then had the idea to add a zipper element to my card! You know me… I love an interactive card! I layered this front panel onto some zig zag rectangle of black card and added a white heat embossed greeting onto it (from the Elephant of Surprise stamp set).

To finish the card, I added a cute elephant and cake, and coloured these in with Copic markers, and layered it up on another layer of black die cut card so the images really pop against the colourful background. A few black pearls and we are DONE!

Happy Crafting!

Hello crafty friends,
The chibi gang are having fun this week with a collaboration celebration between Chibitronics and Newton’s Nook.

Don’t forget to jump over to the Chibitronics blog to see all the fab projects and get links to more fun creations!

What’s more – Chibitronics and Newton’s Nook are each giving away a $30 starter kit and a $30 gift certificate. To enter to win please leave a comment on all the blogs and winners will be randomly chosen at the end of the week.

As soon as I saw this airplane stamp – Newton Takes Flight – I knew that I wanted to make a fun sky scene and use the chibitronic lights to light up the wings. I thought it would also be a great excuse to use the Chibitronics Effect stickers as well. These are fun additions that make your light flash, flicker and more. For this project I chose the pulse option – it worked great.

So if you have seen my work before, you know that I love an interactive card, and I had so many ideas for this card…. and in the end I pretty much did them all. I wanted to have a surprise pop up situation where the front section of the card opens up in a surprising way. I also wanted to make the propeller blade in to a spinning element, and on top of that, I had a cool idea for creating a fun switch. It took some time to wrap my brain around the engineering… but I never let that stop me!

So here it is..

You will see in the video that I started this time with the circuit. I wanted to make sure that my idea would work. I actually built my circuit onto a piece of vellum (that I had stamped with my plane image), which came in really handy later on in the video. I think I will do that again, for sure! It was my first time using the effect stickers so I found a template on the chibitronics website and used that as a guide – he’s a look at my circuit.

I use the little chibitronics stencil to help me get the placement just right – what an awesome little tool!
So my idea was to build a fun, unusual kind of switch. I wanted to be able to slide a cloud panel upwards in order to turn on the lights, and then slide it down again to turn it off. I almost can’t believe that I did it! BRAINPOWER FOR THE WIN! You will have to watch the video to see how it is achieved… I found it hard enough to explain in the video WITH visual aids, i’m not sure i should even attempt to explain it with just words.

I added some stamping to the front using the ‘flyng by to say’ stamp, and then on the inside I added some more Newton’s Nook images from the ‘Newton Dreams of Paris’ set..y’know…for extra fun. I couldn’t help but use the sweet Eiffel Tower stamp -and the teeny weeny hot air balloons -so adorable! I also added the word BONJOUR! [Note to self – book a flight to France before too long! 🙂  heehee]

Here’s what it looks like when you stand it up!

I added a little ink blending with a brush for some soft blue tones under the clouds, and finished with a few black enamel accents.

Thanks for joining me for this fun Newton’s Nook and Chibitronics collaboration. Don’t forget to visit the Chibitronics blog where you can get links to the other projects! You will want to see them – they are FABULOUS!

HAPPY CRAFTING!

If you are following along on the hop, you would have come from the awesome Lizi over at the Love From Lizi blog, and if not – don’t fear – you can start at the beginning by visiting the Heffy Doodle blog – just click HERE!

I have actually got two projects today – because after I made the card, I had a few scraps on my table that I simply couldn’t waste – so I made a matching pillow box to coordinate with this fun card! The full instructions are available in the video at the bottom of this post.

I am using two stamp sets from Heffy Doodle – first the Unbearable Without You set which has lots of fun crafty images. I white heat embossed the images onto my background and then created an ombre effect using my distress inks. I also added the SPIN ME message from the Interactively Yours stamp set – these images are so fun for interactive cards!

Did you know that you can stamp different expressions onto this cute bear? So on one side of the spinner is a sweet, concerned looking bear, and on the other side is a happy chappie with a paint brush tucked into his paws! I love tucking things into his paws – it makes this set so versatile!

The front of the card says I MISS YOU, and on the inside I have used some of the other sentiments that are included in this stamp set. I have decided to make it say ”I miss you.. so much that I can BEARLY craft!”. 🙂 teeehee!

When I had this card all finished, there was a left over piece of card with all the crafty supplies embossed onto it – and there was also some pink cardstock on my table – so I grabbed a pillow box die and some craft foam and decided to also make a coordinating box with a shaker panel on the front! I think this pillow box would be perfect for holding a small gift!

I used the same sequins (from Honey Bee Stamps) and the same colour scheme to make sure both projects matched nicely – but for the image I used a different bear that is in the Unbearable Without You set from Heffy Doodle.

I also added two of the smaller images from the Interactively Yours stamp set – one that says ‘SHAKE ME’ and one that says ‘I have a surprise inside!’ – aren’t they sweet?!

I hope you have enjoyed my projects and next up is the wonderful
