Crafty friends are the best! Don’t ya think? 🙂
When I was in Arizona for Creativation this January, I had the pleasure of hanging out with the some of the Honey Bee Stamps gang – Melissa, Lisa, Taniesa and Carrie. One night we had a sleepover and a little crafting – it was such fun! I didn’t have much supplies with me, but the girls let me tuck into theirs. Isn’t that so lovely!? Taniesa had the Lawn Fawn Love Letters stamp set – which hadn’t quite reached us in the UK at that point. I stamped and die cut a few, but didn’t have a chance to use them that evening so I brought them home with me.
I finally got a chance to use them this week, and I had an idea to make a pretty META card – this card, is a card about sending a card! Yes, I know its a bit crazy but FUN right?!
This card was also inspired by a recent project by Nichol Sphor, where she used yellow and orange tones to create a beautiful background. I don’t know why I hardly ever use yellow and orange tones, but Nichol’s card make me push outside of my normal comfort zone and give it a try AND I love the end result! I am definitely going to use these colours more often!
The scalloped rectangles are from the Lawn Fawn Stitched Heart Envelope die set, and I have used two together to create a larger panel on the left and kept one separate for the right. This is because I wanted the design to have a storyboard feel to it! Plus it was a challenge to create the design in such a way so the elements hid the seam. I think it all worked out in the end! You can hardly tell that its two rectangles stuck together!
I also used my copic markers to colour in the images, and instead of yellowy chickies, I went for teal birdies this time, so they wouldn’t get lost against the background. I also used some stamps from the Lawn Fawn Monster Mash stamp set to add some fun words to the letter and speech bubble!
When making this card I had this painful revelation that I don’t have any teal cardstock left in my stash! How terrible! But nothing a little Peacock Feathers Distress Ink can’t fix for now! I layered some inked card under the edge of my white panel, after using a Mama Elephant Fine Trimmings die to add cute little holes. I love that you can see a little of the blue peeping through the holes. For the background I used some Echo Park Homefront paper from the 6×6 Dots and Stripes paper pad. I think it was the perfect design for the background! To finish I gave the card a sprinkling of sequins from the Honey Bee Stamps Baby Girl sequin mix!

The idea for this card was to create a white top panel, with a colourful panel beneath, so when you pull the zipper a colourful cardstock can be seen, with the message ‘you’re a good egg’. This message is from the Mama Elephant Just Hatched set. Of course, this silly legit didn’t take a photo of the hidden message but you will be able to see it in the video.
On my card, I wanted there to be a family of cute chickies, all having fun drawing a picture of mummy. The cute easel is in the Lil’ Painters set, but I pulled out the ‘mother hen’ image from the Mama Elephant Lunar Animals stamp set (technically i think its a rooster, but lets not dwell on that) 🙂
I used my distress inks and a damp paintbrush to add some loose colour to the bottom of the panel, and after I coloured my images with copics and stuck them down, I added some splotches of pink and blue ‘paint’ using Picked Raspberry and Peacock Feathers distress inks. I wanted it to look like these chicks were getting super messy – we all know kids love messy play!
On the inside, i added a few extra images from the Lil’ Painters set and stamped a greeting on the inside – for this I used a Paula Pascal stamp set called All Year Round. It has some awesome words that come in useful for holidays all year round!
At the bottom of the acetate, I added a skinny piece of card which was longer than the hole in the white panel. This will act as a stopper then I pull the acetate up, just like you can see in the photo. I added foam tape on both sides of the cardstock panel, and a very thin piece along the bottom, making sure that these won’t interfere with the acetate. The strip at the bottom makes sure that the acetate doesn’t fall out the bottom of the card.
