Hello crafty friends!
Thank you to everyone that joined me for Friday night’s CCWM session. If you are new here – CCWM stands for Come Craft With Me – where I invite you all into my craft room each Friday so you can join me for some crafty fun! Through YouTube LIVE, you can watch my creative process, and also join in with the other awesome viewers for some crafty chit chat.
On Friday, i was playing mixing some old products with some new products. I recently bought some of the new Lawn Fawn release and wanted to use these on the card. I used the outside in rectangle dies along with the wave accent dies. I also decided to use the GoPress & Foil machine, so I could share some foiling magic with everyone! I have this machine on loan for a week or so, and was excited to play with it again!
I pulled out some older stamp sets too – the Life Is Good set, and the Critters of the Sea stamp set, both from Lawn Fawn. I love this cute whale, and he fits perfectly into the largest wave accent die.
I coloured him with blue and grey tones of copic markers, and finished him off with a little wink of stella. The glitter makes him look super cool- i love the textured look! And just look at that foiling! SWOOON! During the LIVE stream, someone said that this ‘thorny branches‘ Anna Griffin Hot Foil stamp would look kinda like seaweed – I think it does! So fun!
In the video you will see how the card changed as I met various challenges. Thats all part of the fun! In the end, I cut out a panel so I could build a scene underneath. I love the vellum with the little wave accents cut into it – perfect for tucking little marine life into the waves!
I built up the island underneath, and added the shell to it, but the crab and palm tree are actually on top of the acetate on the raised panel. I like the way this gives it some more dimension. I almost forgot about the cute little boat in the background – it’s from the lovable legends stamp set – another oldie-but-goodie set!
There was much debate on whether to add a greeting to the front. At the time I was going to add a speech bubble from the crab, but it wasn’t quite working out the way i expected, plus I was getting super tired as the clock was nearing midnight. Now, looking back, i would add a strip across the top, just under the palm leaves – but back then, i just couldn’t see it. This goes to show that sometimes it’s good to take a step back, leave it and then return to your projects with fresh eyes!
Throughout the video, we had a few technical issues – and I am so thankful for everyone for their patience whilst my superhero Craig sorted things out. We managed to do the giveaway – congratulations to SNOW, who was the winner on Friday night’s show! Your prize will be in the post tomorrow.
We also discovered that it was Maria’s birthday this week – and so she is going to be the lucky recipient of today’s CCWM card! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARIA!
I hope you can join me next week for another CCWM session!
I am back tomorrow with another fun Honey Bee Stamps project! See you then!

Hello crafty friends!
It’s collaboration week with us Chibi-gang, and I am so excited that we are pairing up my one of my most favourite stamp companies – Lawn Fawn! EEK! What a perfect partnership!
Over the next three days, Chibitronics and Lawn Fawn will be sharing some amazing projects, and I am kicking things off today along with Jessica Frost-Ballast and Kelly Griglione. I will link to their blogs at the bottom of this post so you can hop right over to see their projects too!
There is a $30 Lawn Fawn gift card and a Chibitronics starter kit (valued at $30) that will be given away randomly to two winners drawn from comments across all days and all blogs so the more you visit and comment, the better your chances to win!
To celebrate, I thought I would make an extra special project – so rather than sharing a card, I have this fun, illuminating underwater scene built within a 3D box! Take a look!
I admit, this is an intermediate / advanced project – but the video tutorial walks you through exactly how to create the circuit using the Chibitronics LEDs & copper tape. The fact that you are dealing with a 3D shape is the trickiest bit – but with a little time & patience, it’s well worth while in the end! Let’s take a look at the box when it’s all lit up!
The Mermaid For You stamp and die set was perfect for making this project! I love how each of the elements work so well together to build a scene. I used my copic markers to colour in the images, but then used some distress ink blending to colour in the sea floor. To create the layers of dimension, I used the Lawn Fawn simple stitched hillside border dies.
By adding some acetate to each seabed panel, I was able to add to the 3D illusion. I love that the little fish, at first glance, look like they are floating – or rather ‘swimming’ along! (Just keep swimming….! ) 😀
For the circuit I used both a blue and a green LED. These do come in separate packs, but I couldn’t resist as I really wanted to create that underwater feel!
When you watch the video, you will see that I have added the switch to the handle section of the box – this way I can easily control when it is switched on and off. I die cut another handle piece from scratch cardstock so when I don’t want to have the lights on, I simply sandwich this between the two handles which have the copper tape.
My daughter is begging me to let her have this as a night light for her room – but I am not quite sure if I can part with it just now! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to watch the video to see the full instructions on how this project was made – including details on recreating the chibitronics circuit.
Don’t forget to hop on over to see the projects that both Jessica Frost-Ballast and Kelly Griglione are sharing today as part of this collaboration.
Also, the rest of the gang will have more projects over the course of the next few days – more details over on the Chibitronics blog, which will also link to each of the projects.
Don’t forget to leave a comment at the blogs in order to be in with a chance to win!
You can also visit the Lawn Fawn Blog to see some of the awesome projects made by their team – check it out here.
