MYM – The Countdown begins

See larger image

Todays (or rather, yesterdays!) Miss You Monday Card marks a special occasion. Well at least it is special for Sarah and hubby Jeremy. Yes, thats right, it is August, and at the end of this month the family will be reunited, and alas, baby is due the first week of September. This means that all the months of waiting are over, and although there are another few weeks to go, it all seems bearable because the end is so very near.

So it seemed appropriate to make a card with numbers galore, and what is more perfect than this cuttlebug embossing folder? I wanted clean and simple, with just a little punch of colour – and this is the end result!

I hope you like it…oh, and thanks for waiting patiently. We sold a lotta krispie buns today, and will continue to sell them tomorrow. The Starbucks coffee seems to be going down a treat!! x

A Worthy Excuse?

Okay. confession time.

Theres going to be a little delay in posting this weeks Miss You Monday card. It has been created, but not yet photographed, because my evening has been spent making Krispie Buns for tomorrows Fundraising day. Sorry for the wait, but hopefully all the money we raise for Macmillan Cancer fund and Debra will make up for it.

Paperclipping Challenge Winner

Hey everyone,

Its the start of another month, and that means another Paperclipping challenge will be posted real soon. We’re working on the topics, and the other Judges and I are also super busy checking out the fantastic entries for the July challenge. But before we move on to that, I wanted to share with you the winning layout for the June topic.

Congratulations to Katie Scott to submitted this fab layout in response to the challenge topic “incorporate packaging into a project’.

Here’s what Katie had to say about her layout:

“I used the Lush brads packages and covered them with cardstock for journaling and put labels over the “Lush” title; I loved the color and the scallops on these packages.

After listening to Jen McGuire on the Paperclipping Roundtable, I also tried out my Copic Markers – which I have owned for a long time but haven’t used, they seem fresh even though they are several years old – and made a border on the pink cardstock with the thick side and did the journaling with the thin side.”

And here’s what us judges said about the layout, and why we loved it so much:

– The tags over each photo make an interesting column layout. We love the three panels and the way they are broken up to form a grid. The re-purposed tags match the background paper like it came in the collection, and the scalloped edges give a cute, feminine edge, perfect for little girl layouts.

– Katie took the scallop on the tags and repeated it at the bottom of the pink paper. The colors are girly and tie the various colors in the pictures together.

– Katie chose two types of colors that are very difficult to put together: a muted color (the blue), and a vibrant bright one (the pink). She made this work by combining them, layering them, and making them interact (the pink sits inside the blue background; the blue tags sit inside the pink matte; the pink flower sits above a blue tag; a blue brad sits inside the pink flower, etc).

– The Copic marker outline adds definition to the photo area, acting as a frame — or home — for the page elements, while keeping with the casual feel of the page.

– The simple embellishing show off the photos without detracting from them. We like that she put the middle photo where she did. It’s a great attention getter: it’s more close-up than the other photos and the subject is reaching out to us, the viewers. A visual triangle of red flowers leads the eye right down to that middle photo where her daughter holds out the third flower to us.

– The colors and the flourish background are feminine and flowery, supporting the spring time theme.

Congratulations Katie, and thank you to all who participated in the challenges. We’d love to see you take part this month, so i’ll be sure to let you know when the August challenge is up on the Paperclipping forum. Be sure to check out Katie Blog here.
