Smooshing with a Cuttlebug (& a winner!)

Have you tried the Cuttlebug Schhmmoooooching technique yet? It’s lots of fun, but a little messy I must admit. But nothing a pack of baby wipes cant fix!

Basically you just apply ink to the inside of the cuttlebug embossing folder, on the side which has the text on it (which is usually the flatter side). You can rub the ink directly onto it, or use a brayer for a smoother finish. The result is an embossed piece of cardstock, but the non-embossed areas have got a hint of color! Its really really easy, and looks fabulous! So give it a try. And you should experiment with different inks too. I found that distress inks gave a splodgy result, but i loved the Adirondack dye ink pads.

Here’s two quick cards, using ‘butterscotch’ and ‘eggplant’ adirondack. Both are made using the same basic design but with slight differences: the colours, the embossed design, and the embellishment along the ribbon. Also on the purple one, i used a brayer but on the yellow one, I rubbed the ink pad in circles over the embossing folder, and you can almost see the swirly ink effect if you look closely. The photos aren’t great though I must admit – especially in contrast to how much impact they make in real life!

I had one more yellow image so i threw together this quick card. Really all i wanted to do was to play with a different stitch design on my sewing machine (but you can see i need a little more practice in parts!).

I was so busy drooling over the card I nearly had a heart attack when I saw my name there! Me really? Oh wow – this last week has been surreal. Thank you so much Lesley.

I think your posting this scrummy technique is the clincher in my deciding I really must rebuy a bug! Love the effect on your cards. Love the name… smooshing! 😀

Thank you again! So chuffed! 🙂
