Marvelous and Magical Mittens – A Christmas Card

Aren’t mittens awesome! And I especially love it when I see a little kid with a pair of mittens that has the string that goes up one coat sleeve and down the other- i can’t wait until our little one is big enough to have mittens!

So it was no surprise that I fell in love with this mittens stamp from my October Unity Kit of the Month. So very cute! I stamped and embossed the image onto a piece of white card, and ran it through the cuttlebug with my nesties to create a circular topper, and then used the scalloped circle to mount this onto the front flap of the card, which I had trimmed down a little. I did this because I wanted the inside to have some colour, so I have used a piece of paper from the Cosmo Cricket Lil Man collection to add some festive stripes!

Because I wanted a warm feel to the card, I lightly added some tea dye distress inks to the background of the circle, and then as an after thought stamped a music background stamp over the top very lightly. You can hardly see it, its quite subtle in the photograph, but I think it made a big difference to the card in real life.

Instead of just colouring in the mittens, I embossed another set of mittens onto pattern paper and layered these on top, and the colour contrast really made the mittens pop! I wish I had mittens this colour!!

To finish the card, all that I needed to do was emboss a greeting onto the pattern paper, and for this I chose to use white embossing powder, and thankfully it looks great especially as it coordinates with the white stitching.

I reckon I need to go buy myself some mittens now! I guess Unity has inspired me in more ways than one yet again!

Thanks for stopping by

Also, I wanted to say a HUGE congratulations to Elizabeth Kartchner and Stephanie Howell who between them have blessed our world with three little angels! Lola Marie, Lucy and Cate – we can’t wait to see you on many a scrapbook layout to come!
