A Birthday (H)Air Balloon Card

You may be wondering about the random ‘H’ in the title of the post… 🙂 Its a bit of a running joke in our household. When Piper was smaller she would get a little confused when we said Hot Air Balloon. She would slur together the first two words to make Hair balloon. No matter how many times we tried to explain it, she would insist in calling them Hair Balloons! It was so cute that we just decided to roll with it!

This card is a bright a funky card using pattern paper and a free silhouette cut file from 2ps as the focal feature. The hot air balloon is adorable – you can find it right here. I cut it out in white cardstock then inked it with some Distress Ink. I covered the basket with a post it note before inking and then once the pink bit was done, I used a woodgrain stamp in brown ink to decorate the basket. LOVE IT!

The clouds are a MFT die, ran through the cuttlebug with a little bit of Tumbled Glass Distress Ink on the edges, and the sunshine was yellow pattern paper cut with a punch and inked with yellow Distress Ink. I just love getting inky, and I adore the way it can add more dimension to your finished piece.

The blue panel looked a little stark on the background, so I lay down a few strips of pink and white washi tape and added a little line of stitching, just to bring some darker colours into the design.

At this stage the card looks almost there, but not quite! So i added a stamped greeting and folded the panel to create a banner shape. It reminds me of banner flags flying behind retro airplanes! A few gems and pearl dots and I call that done.

xx
