Honey Bee Stamps

[Shared on the Honey Bee Stamps Blog today 🙂 ]

Hello sweet friends!

I am LOVING this hexagon coverplate – I think it has so many great ways to be used! Today I decided to make a shaker card, and try to give the impression of looking inside a honey hive!

I started by cutting a frame into cardstock using some rectangle dies, and then I layered this awesome hexagon cover plate die cut underneath the frame, before adding a layer of acetate underneath. All that took mere minutes, and already the card was looking so gorgeous! I reached for my Honey Jar sequins to go inside- they are a beautiful mix of golden yellows with hints of black, and some sequins even have an awesome debossed texture to it! A little foam tape to the edges of my frame and my shaker element was complete!

I thought that I would use black cardstock to coordinate with those tiny sequins, and the contrast in colour would really make the design pop! First I white heat embossed one of the cute Busy Bee images onto black card, then coloured him in with some polychromos pencils.

I have been doing some address calls on my blog recently – where I send out cards to some of my blog readers – so I decided to choose a general greeting that I could use to send to my crafty friends. The Hello honeycuts die was just perfect. I decided to die cut this from some adhesive craft foam and stick to the front of the card.

Next I took a strip of black cardstock and white heat embossed a greeting using the Hello Gorgeous stamp set. I had to do a little masking with some post it note tape in order to stamp two E’s but it was worth it in the end!

I used the shadow die from the Hello honeycuts set to trim the edge of the black strip so it nestles nicely against the word hello. Do you see the shine on that word hello? Yesterday I invested in a brand new bottle of glossy accents- Oh MAN, I can’t believe how nicely it flows. I had forgotten that it used to be so easy! I added a layer of glossy accents on top of the foam and also added some to the bees wings!

FUN!

One of the things I like to do every now and again is mix my new products with older products. Sometimes I am so amazed at how much more mileage you can get out of your stamps this way. Today I am sharing a card that features the Curious Kitties stamps and die set released in February this year, with an older (but still so amazing) stamp set called Special Delivery to create a fun scene.

At first I thought that i would have the little kitty hanging off the mailbox so I could use the sweet Hang In There Friend sentiment from the new Blah Blah Blah set, but my design changed a little as I went along! haha!

To start I stamped the mailbox, birdies and a bunch of envelopes from the Special Delivery set and then stamped this sweet cat from the Curious Kitties set. I coloured them all with copic markers and cut them out. I love the way the Curious Kitties dies cut around the tail which is so tricky to get perfect with scissors!

I have been really enjoying playing with bright colours recently, so decided to add a little rainbow ink blending to my card to ground the design. I used a strip of post it tape to mask off my card, leaving an exposed strip of about an inch at the bottom. Next using my mini blending foam tools and some distress ink, I added colour all the way along the bottom edge – overlapping the colours slightly to get a nice blend! Afterwards I gave it a spritz with water to get a distressed look!

To add a little texture I used a border die to add some faux stitching just above the inked section, and then stuck all my elements in place using glue dots. Can you see that I used my craft knife to cut a little slit in the mailbox so I could tuck some envelopes inside it! So fun! To finish the card, I chose this sentiment from the Blah Blah Blah set and to bring a little more colour to it, I used a BG10 Cool Shadow Copic marker to add a little shading around the letters. It’s pretty subtle, but it is a fun way to make your greetings pop!

Enjoy your day, and I will see you next week!

Hello everyone and happy Monday!

A few weeks back I shared a card with watercoloured flowers on a purple cardstock and I was surprised that loads of people were commenting on the colour. Loads of people mentioned that purple seems to be an underdog in the cardmaking world! Of course, I decided to take this as a challenge, and create another card with purple as the main event!

This is an elegant wedding card which is super simple, but I love the effect. At first glance, you can see the famous fairy tale words ‘and they lived happily ever after’ which are from the Happiness stamp set. However, if you gently slide the vellum down, a new surprise unfolds!

Underneath, incorporated into the middle of the card is a beautiful floral design from the Hello Gorgeous stamp set. First I cut out my purple cardstock (which is actually from my scrapbooking stash) and then creased two folds to create a gatefold card. I laid the floral die on the two flaps and stuck it down with some post it tape to the left flap. Then I gently opened the card and ran it through my big shot machine. Next I folded it all back up again, nestled the die into the die cut area, grabbed the post it tape and repeated the process for the right hand side.

On a separate piece of cardstock, I white heat embossed the beautiful floral images and then die cut this using the coordinating die. To add some dimension I also cut a layer of white craft foam to go underneath the floral panel, and then stuck this onto the card. This is easy to do when the flaps are closed – it is like slotting a puzzle piece in place!

I really liked that this card is intricate and elegant, and I was afraid of overworking it – so I used some purple copic markers to add a little tone on tone shading to the floral image, before finishing off with a few Honey Bee embellishment diamonds.

This would be a great card for mass producing, as there is little work, but a big impact! I hope you might try it out for yourself!
