Card Making

Here’s a wedding themed card I have made using a grey tone. Usually I love working with colour, but there is something about this silvery grey shade that I find so enchanting right now.

I used a pretty flourish stamp to create the background. I simply stamped it once, then stamped above the first image, and kept going. Because i was using a clear acrylic mount it was easy to see exactly where the image would be stamped. This is a lovely way of creating custom made backgrounds for cards and scrapbook pages, although a little time consuming the end result is definitely worth it.

Once I had stamped all over the front panel of the card, I took my ink blending tool to bring some subtle colour onto the edges of the card. The grey panel is simply an offcut from another project that I repurposed – made by swiping the Pumice Stone distress ink across some cardstock – this is usually called the direct to paper technique. I love the way that this technique allows you to make your own custom coloured cardstock so you can have an exact match with the stamped images on your project. You can see me do this technique in action by watching the following video -it actually shows you how to use your Distress inks in four different ways.

I’m not sure why the bow looks a little yellowy in the photo because it’s not like that in real life but hey, never mind. 🙂

MAN-day Monday : Dino-mite card

Just over a year ago I had a regular monday slot called ‘Miss You Monday’, when I made a card each week for my friend Sarah who was in the States. The cards were for Sarah, but it was also lovely to have the ability to share them with all my followers at Hungry Heffy Crafts. To be honest, having a weekly spot meant that I was encouraged and motivated to make sure that I spent even just a few minutes crafting, and some days it was the case of making a super quick card just so that I had something to share on a Monday.

With the arrival of my darling little princess, time is even more precious, but sometimes i find myself wasting time doing nothing, and then when I look back, i regret not spending that time in my craft room. There have been countless evenings when Piper has not even stirred, but i spend my time browsing TV watching utter fluff, or clicking through facebook for no reason, even though it really doesn’t matter what my distant cousin ate for lunch or what an ex-colleague thinks about X-factor.

So I have decided to introduce a new weekly feature. 🙂

Some of you may already know this, but i sell a few of my cards at my hubby’s workplace, and i have had a request for a few more masculine cards. It’s not that I don’t like making men cards, but i have a tendency towards the prettier papers and embellishments i guess!

So i have set myself a challenge to create a masculine card every week to show you on ‘MAN-day Monday’. Perhaps they will be for fathers, for grandaddy’s, for brothers or cousins. Perhaps for teachers, for husbands or even for little boys; but one thing they will have in common is that Y chromosome.

So, please, won’t you join me at the start of every week to celebrate MAN-day Monday.

To start us off a cute dino themed card, cool enough for little boys and maybe not so little boys too.

Using large stamps is a great way to create backgrounds for your cards, and with a stamped background sometimes you need very little else to make your project eye-catching. I stamped the hero arts raindrops stamp with embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder to create the white polka dot background at the top of the card.

To add some whimsy, I cut a notch out of the side of the card, where the panel overlaps the edge. I used a square punch to create this effect, but you could quite easily achieve the same results with a ruler and craft knife.

Mister Dinosaur is a wooden stamp from Dovecraft – one of those £1.99 stamps that are usually lurking in bargain buckets. He’s been in my stash for ages and makes an appearance every now and again. I stamped him in Archival ink and used aquarelle pencils to colour him in. To make the greeting, I rifled through my stamps and did a little mixing and matching to get a phrase which was perfect for this card. I love the way the different fonts look all together.

Thanks for joining me for my first MAN-day Monday, and i hope you’ll pop back again soon.

When I look at this card, I think it reminds me of the patchwork applique that my Granny used to make. I wanted to use pinks and greens from the MME Quite Contrary range, as I love the way these colours work together. I bought the 6×6 paper pad ages ago and it’s nearly finished because I keep finding the colours and patterns so versatile.

As a main focal element for this card I wanted a monogram J, but rather than worry too much about it being exact, I simply cut out the letter freehand using a craft knife. Although its not 100% perfect, i think it gives a whimsical feel – plus I think this also means that it looks more handmade as well.

To create the stitching, I used my trusty white gel pen – i love this pen, it’s definitely a staple tool in my craft box.

The little bug is a Stampin’ Up stamp from the Garden Whimsy collection, which was a perfect fit considering Juliet is more often than not referred to as Julebug.

A sweet little card for a sweet little girl. I just can’t believe she is one already!

Thanks for stopping by
