MAN-day Monday

Another Monday, another MAN-day Monday. Today’s card is kinda inspired by last weeks Super Mario card. Being the wife of a video gamer means that cards like these are always well received. I love the simplicity of the Nintendo characters and thought it would be SUPER easy (haha) to recreate the star for a card.

I used a star cookie cutter die from Quickutz and used my scissors to round off the points. Next i punched two holes in the star using my cropadile, one just above the other, and used my craft knife to slice between the two holes. This created a long oblong shape to look like an eye. I obviously did this twice so my star could have two eyes (how else would it be able to see?) Then I punched a circle from black card and stuck it behind the eye holes.

For a simple background I embossed the circle using a cuttlebug embossing folder, and used black to create a high contrast between the background and my little star. The greeting was simply printed using my computer and printer and i matted this using red cardstock.

Mens cards don’t have to be complicated.

🙂

Oh, by the way, watch out for my Thanksgiving video tutorial coming up soon, with 4 free downloadable journaling cards. I am hoping to have it up in a few days. If that sounds like fun to you, maybe you should check out one of my previous Thanksgiving projects, also with a downloadable journaling card – check out this post called ‘I am thankful

Welcome to another MAN-day Monday everyone. Thanks for joining me today. 🙂

I have a little box of cards that I sell at my hubby’s work and as he works in the computer games industry, when I spied some Super Mario badges for sale at my local pound shop, i couldn’t resist buying them. I just know there will be lots of people at his work that want ‘geek-chic’ cards! And what’s better than the legendary retro plumber himself?

I wanted to create a scene for the basis of the card, so i used a journaling stamp to stamp the green blocks at the bottom of the card. It reminds me of those little pixely computer screens on the gameboy (ohh geez, remember the gameboy!??)

I mounted the badge onto the card using some foam tape, but i removed some of the stickiness first by tapping the tape onto my jumper a few times first of all. I wanted to make sure it was sticky enough to hold to the card, but easy enough to remove without tearing the card.

To create a sense of movement i pulled out my beloved eyelets (that have been in hibernation i think) and made a ‘boing’ line. {press A to jump, double tap A to double jump….boiiiiing!} 🙂

Forget about boys, even I would love this card!!

xx

Oh, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

{btw, check out the post below to see my most recent video tutorial}

One way to make a card look more striking is to incorporate a black base into the design, and these black cards and envelopes are perfect for todays MAN-day Monday card. I didnt want the black to be overpowering or depressing, so i’ve teamed it up with some bright, vibrant cardstock.

Isn’t that little squirrel so cute! He was scurrying around on a piece of scrapbook paper, and I decided to give him pride of place on his own little card. For the text, i simply printed this out using my computer and home printer, and I thought the term ‘nutter’ would be perfect for boys, as they are always calling each other names, or making up unflattering nick names for each other!

The design is simple, so it goes to prove that you don’t have to make a complicated card for the guys, and of course you can use the same design to make other cards- Proof? – just look below…

Same design, different look. I had originally thought that this would be a ‘Hoppy Anniversary’ card, but someone wanted it as a birthday card instead.
