MAN-day Monday

Bonjour tout le monde! Hey, guess what!? Summer has arrived!!! Yeaaaay!

Oh boy, i’ve been busy. So much to do these days, but its all bags full o’ fun. Speaking of bags…look at this cutie that i picked up last weekend!!

Isn’t it the cutest!? I think its a foxy. Craig thinks its an owl. Who knows what critter it is supposed to be, at least i know its cute! I hope all my junk will fit into it as its much smaller than my current bag.

Today is Monday. That means its time for MAN-day Monday, and here’s our masculine themed card for today!

This card was a bit of an experiment. I first thought of my daddy when i saw this bike. He was a bit of a bicycle geek, collecting and restoring old bikes until his habit got a little  out of control. I find it hard not to associate all black bikes with him. This line of thinking then gave me some inspiration to make a masculine card using this bicycle stamp.

This card is all about the masking! I stamped the black bike first, then masked it with some copy paper and some repositionable glue. It was a little fiddly, but worth it. Once the mask was in place, i stamped the grey bikes with pumice stone distress ink. I dithered over whether to use another colour, but i wanted to maintain a boyish look (so happy i stuck with grey 🙂 x ).

To make sure the background bikes were straight, i used my stampamajig to position them perfectly.

Once all the bikes were stamped, i trimmed the card and distressed the edges with the pumice stone ink and a blending tool, just before removing the mask.  I coloured the balloons with colouring pencils and added glossy accents to give an enamel look. This added dimension to the balloons and also they look really cool when the light shines off them. Its hard to see in the piccys tho.

To finish, the greeting was embossed in white embossing powder and then i smeared the card with black ink, before cutting into shape and adding to the card.

Oh, i forgot to say, the stamp is from one of the Unity Stamps kit of the month packs. x

Another MAN-day Monday to share with you today, and this time its a good luck card. One of the guys at work is going back to work in Latvia. He’s been in the Centre for years so when I heard that he was going back I simply had to make him a little card. For this one I even sketched it out first as I was feeling particularly inspired one day.

My original thought was to use a stamp for the plane, but the only stamp i had was teeny tiny, but i found an old 6×6 paper stack which had this aeroplane on one page. The tones were perfect for a more subdued, masculine feel so all the patterned paper i used was from this stack. I even did my research and found that the Latvian flag looks like this….

…so i incorporated this into the design. easy peasy.

The good luck bit i just drew. Sometimes you just can’t get a stamp that is just quite right, and well, when the laptop is all the way in another room a pen just seems easier (at least for lazy old me).

All the best Emil. If you are ever back, come and visit us!

Hey guys! WelCOmE to AnoTHeR MANdaY MonDaY!! whoop whoop!

Todays card was one i made for my brother Russell. I chose to use some stamps to create a graphic style card, and i LOVE it!

I mixed some newer products such as the washi tape and bakers twine with some older pieces in the stash such as the gaffer tape and the chipboard hand. I find this is a great way to inspire you to use up all those unloved older supplies that have been gathering dust for way too long now.
See that metal disc? Its a big flat brad from Trimcraft from waaaay back- i just punched a hole with my trusty crop-a-dile. Awesomeness! I love the way that metal embellishment give a more masculine feel to a card.

It’s taken a while for me to post this but lets give Russell a belated birthday shout out anyways : Happy Birthday Bro!!
x

See you again soon.
