I am loving kraft cardstock right now. I think its probably because it gives me that earthy, organic feel that reminds me of this time of year when the leaves are changing colour and we prepare for the harvest season. When we went strawberry picking a few weekends ago, I knew that I wanted to use the kraft card as the base of my layout, and this is the final project.

I kept to a simple design so that the main focal point remained on the photos, after all how cute does Randolph look here as he munches on his strawberry. I used a circle chipboard piece to create an element that anchors all three photos to the background and to each other, and this also introduced a rich red colour which I simply couldn’t avoid!

You can also see that i’ve used products which focus on other types of fruit and berries to enhance the theme of the layout. The little chipboard strawberry started life in the shape of a cherry, but had a restyle after a quick alteration with a craft knife. By taking the roundness away to make the berry a little bit pointier, it instantly ressembled a strawberry. Then I stamped it with these cool roller stamps from Glitz designs which made an awesome crosshatch pattern on top.

As a finishing touch, I pushed a green prima flower over the stem to create that authentic strawberry look! Of course, I added a title with some of the American Crafts Thickers alphas which I adore. Throw in a scallop border, a button, and brad and a few other bits and pieces to make an embellishment cluster and hey presto – all finished!

Quick question – this post has left me wondering something. Any one know what you call the green bit of the strawberry?

Thanks for looking and please leave a comment for me here.

You’ve been very patient, and yesterday I took lots of photos of my layouts to show you over the next few days. But for today, another layout born from our visit to Legoland.

I’ve ran out of 12×12 page protectors lately, so i’ve been challenging myself to use my 8.5″ x 11″ scrapbook album which I got about 18 months ago and is still looking pitifully empty. Because I started scrapbooking in the standard 12×12 form, this size come naturally to me, but I like to push myself out of the comfort zone so I’m determined not to buy any more 12×12 page protectors until my 8.5×11 album fills out a little bit more. So watch this space for more 8.5×11 pages.

This page was fun, as was the activity it documents. The great thing about using this size of paper is that you can print right onto the layout which was something different for me, so I wanted to explore this new element of creative freedom. My journaling for this layout was the exact conversation that proceeded the activity and reads as such:

Lesley: I want to go see the climbing wall
Craig: OK, No Problem, we can go SEE the climbing wall
Lesley: Wait…I want to go ON the climbing wall
Craig: The climbing wall is for kids
Lesley: LOOK! It says the max weight limit is eighteen stone. So it not JUST for kids

Two minutes later…
three big kids climbed a wall

(with varying degrees of success)

Yes, please note the last line of the journaling. It’s true, I sucked. But it definitely was fun.

Two more things to share:

I’m on cloud nine at the moment because two of my layouts have been accepted for publication, the first one will feature in Scrapbook Memories, and the other on Scrapbook News and Review. So I can please give a big THANK YOU shout out to Leslie Ashe who encouraged me to get off my butt and start submitting my work.

Secondly, … Have a great Sunday!

Thanks for looking and I hope you like it.

A couple of weeks ago my bro Roger, Shelly & my darling nephew Josh came over for a visit. It was only for a few days but we had a visit to the legendary Land of Lego. It was a smashing day! So much to see and so much to do, and Josh seemed to have a great time.

Throughout the weekend, Josh had graced us with a couple of renditions of the Bob the Builder theme tune, and when we spied Bob and Wendy at the end of the path, Josh’s eyes lit up with excitement. But as we walked closer, Josh’s confidence wore off and shyness took over, and he wasn’t feeling too sure about the life size lego constructions which stood before him. We all had to pose for pictures with Bob and Wendy before he was brave enough to venture near.

I hope for Josh his visit to Legoland with Auntie Lesley and Uncle Craig will be unforgettable.
