Do you ever find a really great photo that is begging to be scrapbooked but for some reason you can’t quite seem to find the perfect way to scrap it. This is exactly what happened with this photo of Craig playing poker. It is an awesome photo taken my my friend Sarah, and I love the positioning of the camera and the angles it has created in the photo, but the colour is a little off, too yellowy and this bothered me more than I cared to admit. And so this poor photo seemed to take up a permanent residence in my ‘waiting to be scrapped tub’. Many times I pulled it from the tub, looked at it and put it back, and in my head I get strange visions of the Claw machine in toy story where all the little aliens are shouting, oh pick me, pick me’. Well i finally picked up the poker picture.
Mini mister + alcohol inks +scrap paper & scissors = perfect combination for making a masked design, with a masculine edge ( which is a fancy way of saying that I had fun whilst making a mess). I cut out a heart, diamond, club and spade shape and stuck this to the cardstock using repositionable tape runner, then sprayed inky water over the masked design. I was really pleased with the result and would definitely recommend this technique to anyone who hasn’t given it a go yet. But you better not do it on a fancy dining table unless you have plenty of old newspapers handy.
I used some papers from my Teresa Collins stash, as they supported my red and black colour theme and also had a grungy edge to them, and in all honesty there wasn’t much else to this layout. The chipboard letters are from Basic Grey and I decided to leave these raw so as to not detract from the photo, but I added a little pop of colour by using a red heart brad in the middle of the letter O (except I cut off the legs and mounting him with a pop dot). The tags are from making memories and the postmark is a rub on from 7 gypsies, and the hand is a printed chipboard piece from Bisous. The journaling stamp is from Prima marketing (i love it to bits by the way) and the red diamonds is a stamp that was a freebie from Craft Stamper magazine last year some time, stamped using fired brick distressing ink.
Although I suck at Poker, I think I win with this layout, as I’m really happy with the end result, even if I did wait a year or two to scrap the picture.

Today’s layout is about my cousin Hayley. I was 8 when Hayley was born, so i’ve always considered her the little sister that I never had. With only 50 yards between our family homes, we grew up together and confided in one another. Many a girly sleepover and agony aunt moments shared. It was not a difficult decision to have Hayley as one of my bridesmaids on my big day, and as expected she was the perfect choice.
When I went to Uni, I didn’t get to see Hayley as much as I wanted to, and even now I only get to visit the homeland once or twice every year. Even at that, Hayley works so hard that sometimes I don’t even see her even when I do get back to Northern Ireland for a while. Its a shame she is not one of those people who could chat for hours on the phone. I should really get her over to visit me soon……
But still, when I think of Hails, I think of a kind and considerate person, the funny things she does and say. The friendship we have, a shared soul, the strong connection between us- one that blurs the line between family / friend. When I think of her, I smile.
And that is exactly what I wanted to portray in this layout. Simple and to the point. Bright and colourful, just like her bubbly personality, and a photo that demonstrates our closeness. I will always love my Hails for ever and ever and ever and ever and ever.

A quick one today, and another layout about my little fur baby. Last year for Christmas we unwrapped a pressie to find a little magnet that read ‘a cat and it’s housekeepers live here’. And if you own a cat, you are probably aware of how true this is. Miya is definitely the boss of our house – she tells us when it is time to get up to serve her breakfast, she moves us out of the way if we are in the best sleeping spot, she inspects all my crafting to ensure that they pass her seal of approval, and she keeps a close eye on us most evenings whilst sitting high up on her scratching post. Its quite funny how much of a little princess she thinks she is…or perhaps dictator may be a more accurate term.
Craig and I always seem to verbalise what we believe she is thinking as we decipher her stern looks and unamused stares, and this layout is a collection of these statements which we really do believe goes through her furry little head. It was fun. I hope you like it.
This was also another opportunity for me to play with my sewing machine to create a frame around the main focal area and to use this luuuurvly scalloped edge paper which was lying in my stash for ages, and the best bit was that I got to use up lots of scraps from my box of Bisous goodies.
Journaling reads:
“Excuse me. Do you have permission to do that? I don’t remember seeing the necessary completed form required for you to do that. How very dare you disrespect me like that. Don’t you know who I am? What makes you think that you can get away with that? It disgusts me when I see you do that. Did you think that it was your God given right to do what you want? Free will? I think not. I don’t want to hear excuses or complaints. i don’t even want to look at you right now! I’m going to sit up here at the highest height and look upon you with judgement. don’t ever forget who is the boss round here!”
