Well, well, well. Can you even believe it? A YEAR!!?

If you have come here from Amy Rysavy‘s blog, then you have made it to the last stop on our Heffy Doodle Birthday Blog hop! WOOHOO! For everyone else, you might want to head on over to the Heffy Doodle blog to start this hop, as it is jam packed full of amazing projects!

So, in case you don’t know, my name is Lesley Oman and I am the founder and creator of Heffy Doodle. For many years my hubby told me to create my own range of stamps, and last year I finally decided it was time to appease him. 😀 I drew some designs and started planning a Kickstarter campaign. It was exactly 1 year ago today that I shared my big secret plans with the world! I cannot believe how time has flown by, and I still marvel at the wonderful support I receive from customers, friends, family and this magnificent industry! I would like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you for the part you have played in the development of my dreams. …. Enough sappiness, because its time to celebrate!

BLOG HOP PRIZES

Two lucky winners will receive a £50 gift voucher to the Heffy Doodle store. Leave a comment before noon on 26th June to qualify. The winners will be announced on the Heffy Doodle blog on June 24th.

Now, let’s take a look at my project!

Birthdays are cause for celebrations and BIG PARTIES, so i wanted my card to be exactly the same. I actually created the inside first, but before we go there, here is the outside. The background was created using the Heffy Doodle Stitched Bubble Background die and I cut the frame into it using the Lucky Clover Frames set. The bear is from the Unbearable Without You stamp set, balloons from the Party Palooza set, and I stamped a greeting from the new Everyday Sentiment Duos. I even used the NEW Heffy Memo tape to mask the stamp so i could get two colours. So tell me, do you think this lil bear looks pleasantly surprised?

Here’s why…

All his sweet friends have thrown him a beach birthday party! WOO! Of course i had to do it at the beach, because then i could include some of the new ocean critters from Oceans of Love and the turtle from the Shellabrate exclusive freebie ( you get it for free when you spend £35 in the Heffy Doodle store).

For the sky, i embossed the Swirly Cloud dies, and used distress inks and oxides for the sea and beachy mounds. Then it was stamp, colour and die cut  for all my cute critters. I have used Happy Snappy Crocs, Honey Bunny Boo, Yappy Happy Mail, Oceans of Love, Unbearable Without you, Party Palooza and wingman (and the Shellabrate exclusive). For the number 1 on the cake, i just drew this freehand.

I kinda wish i was at this party! Don’t you!

On Friday’s Come Craft With Me live stream, I was playing with a new-to-me product – nuvo gilding flakes.

I don’t normally add a lot of foiling to my projects but I really wanted to try out some techniques with this cool product.

First up I used some double sided tape to create foiled lines on my card. It’s so simple and effective – so much so that I actually used this technique on another card later in my stream to give it extra shine.

Next I used a product in my stash that I haven’t used in years – it’s called stamp and bond, and essentially it’s like an embossing powder that creates a sticky glue area. I definitely think this needs a little bit of skill, but I’m happy with how it turned out.

I purposefully used a distressed outline stamp as I thought that style would be more forgiving. I love how the gold shines on the inked background.

For this card, I used some stick it adhesive on craft foam to create this golden frame. I used the Heffy Doodle clover frames for this, along with the Lucky Friends stamp set.

It looks a little raggidy around the edges but apparently a stiff bristled brush will help burnish away parts that should be there.

I actually made it to FOUR cards! Woah! For this one I wanted to experiment with my glue pens.i grabbed the one I had to hand which is the Stix2 2 way glue pen – and it worked perfectly! Soooo perfect!!

I wrote the word sister with my glue pen and waited for it to dry tacky. The rest of the card came together quickly with sticky tape gilded lines and some heart dies from lawn fawn.

So here’s what I learned about nuvo gilding flakes

– get a bigger tub. Get one BEFORE you even open this one

– experiment with brushes to burnish away the excess. Try soft brushes, stuff brushes, paper towels, sponges … all sorts

– the flakes are soooo soft. I swear the feeling of gilding flakes stick to craft foam is almost as texturally pleasing as stroking puppy dog ears

– there’s actuallylots of ways to use this product- which means I’m more likely to use it. I love versatility.

– you can rub the gilded areas with a tissue to make it shiner. It’s so cool.

– and lastly, I learned that I should definitely try some more things, even if it feels out of my usual comfort zone.

Thanks for stopping by. Here’s the video if you wanna watch it.

X hugs

Lesley

Hey gang

On Friday night we had another Come Craft With Me LIVE YouTube stream over on my YouTube channel.

Three cards were made… Let’s take a look

First up is this card using MFT stamps. I coloured these with copics during the week whilst piper was getting crafty. I used a little cracked pistachio distress ink on the background then used a brush blending tool to create a lilac background for the letter dies (also MFT) .

When I was assembling the card, I found some die cut hearts in yellow which made the perfect addition to these huggy friends – so to balancethe design I also added a yellow sentiment below using another MFT stamp set.

Next up, I wanted to make a card for Elizabeth and Paul, who are moving to Wales on Monday (sniff!). A viewer on the stream suggested that the card should be covered in wHales – lol! So here’s what happened!

I used my twinkling h2os to add a shimmer to these heat embossed lawn fawn whales. I love the shimmer! I then built a shaker panel with vellum, and added glitter inside- although through the vellum it does look more like sand! Still like it though!

Cadd three is always when I start getting tired – ha! But I poked through my coloured images and found these cute MFT dragon, prince and princess, along with a frame cut using studio katia’s dotted detail set.

I inked the die cut background using spun sugar, worn lipstick & abandoned coral distress ink. I thought that this card needed a little something more, so I added the volcano from Heffy Doodle Geology Rocks stamp set.

I thought some ink splatter would look fun, and I paired up the I Lava you sentiment from Heffy Doodle with the slay a dragon sentiment from MFT. What a perfect pair!

If you would like to watch the full video (it’s in real-time) then you can check it out on YouTube.

Have a happy crafty day!
