The Dress Story – Scrapbook Layout

Hey everybody.
Have you ever taken on the challenge of a wedding scrapbook? How long did it take you to get bored stiff!!?!?
Seriously, is it just me?!
I guess you could say I get bored easily, and even when I was making our wedding invitations, it drove me crazy that they all had to look the same. Don’t get me wrong, I loved them sooo much, but after the first 40-50, i was dying to mix it up a little.

And the same goes for my wedding scrapbook. Straight after the wedding I was totally in the mood to scrap the biggest day of my life, but after a few pages, the repetition was making my memories stagnant. So much so that it made the photos less special- and so I stopped. I allowed myself to have a break away. And it was probably the best decision ever! When making layouts about our wedding day, I figured out that I create better at my own pace. I want to scrapbook those photos because I WANT to scrapbook them, not because I have to. At the very least this is true for those pages that are all for me, and not for competitions, design teams or submissions. All that matters is that I am happy with the result.

And so, over three years after the big day, I felt that it was time to make another page. I was flicking through photos and found one of me trying on my dress. The story came flooding back to me, and I realised- “hey, I have a story to tell, let’s get this written down on a page!”

So I started to create, and I loved the direction of the layout, but suddenly, I realised I had more to say about this story than a few words- where would I squeeze them in? In the end, I made a creative decision. Instead of changing the design of the layout which I was already happy with, and instead of squeezing in the words on the page which ran the risk of ruining the overall feel of the page, I decided that I would put a small 6 x 6 page protector into my album, and create a small page full of journaling.

I’m in love with the result!

I hope you like it too.

Love the layout especially the filmstrip. The story of how you found your dress is wonderful, a memory you and your Mother can share for the rest of your lives. I wish I could have had something like that but with my daughter but it is not to be. Elaina
