I was asked to make a card for someone whose friend had a daughter who was turning one. But there was a special request.
Apparently, the parents of baby Clemency are not very ‘girly’, and i guess little Clemency was likely a bit of a tom boy in the making. Due to this fact, Craig’s colleague couldn’t find a baby card that suited their personalities.
I was so excited to be faced with a challenge, after all, baby cards and little kiddy cards traditionally fall within pink or blue, and are usually covered in bright colours or tv characters. I decided that this card would be more subdued, and i knew instantly that for this card, i would be playing with kraft.
The brown kraft gives a natural, organic feel to any card, and therefore i knew that it would be perfect for this very occasion. Of course, i had to put a little bit of pink in there, but i purposely chose a pattern paper that had a subtle pink, mixed with some soft blues as well.
Because I wanted simple, but not boring, i chose to add texture and dimension by using an embossing folder to create the raised dots, and i also used my tim holtz distressing tool to rough up the edges of the raised panel. And for a little more VaVaVoom, some Ranger Enamel accents.
