Card Making

Hey everyone.

Remember me? Im the one who has been absent for months. Whoops. Sorry about that. Im not sure how, but all of a sudden I am back in the crafty mindset. Its one of those ‘don’t-ask-questions-just-run-with-it’ things! Now that the evenings are lighter I am starting to feel like my time after dinner can be used more productively, rather than spending it snuggling under a blanket (which has been my go-to reflex for the past while). Viva la craftiness!

May is upon us and that means that it has started – the massive influx of birthdays. The year starts nice and slow, and as soon as we hit May, we have my Mum-in-law’s birthday, My Dad-in-law’s birthday, my brother-in-law’s birthday, and then it gets to mid month and its my brother, then my sister at the end.

Luckily my mojo came back in time. Well,,,, almost in time. I did my usual trick of making the cards but not posting them on time. I am notoriously bad at posting cards. I wish there was a rehab for that because i feel so guilty that i dont even want to send the card in the end. 🙁

So here’s a nice little mix of cards that I have made for the Oman clan.

First a card for Craig’s Mum.

Marvellous day

Nice and flowery and springy.

So i have just typed the title of the card into this post and spell check has just informed me that marvellous has two Ls! Oh dear! RUBBISH! I hate it when that happens! Ah well, lets hope she doesn’t notice! LOL

Next up is a card for dad. I saw this Father text as a print on Pinterest and it looks like i didn’t actually pin it to my board so unfortunately i cant link it back. If i find it again I will link it up. I thought it looked really cool. I am planning on making more like this if i can be creative enough to think of character traits.

And of course, a card from Piper for Granda Oman. I used the left over pieces of alpha’s from a previous card that I made for my dad’s birthday in January. The design is basic but I love the finished piece!

Next stop is the cards for little Steven. Steven is much younger than Craig so these are boy cards. I am actually really excited to show these cards to you because Piper was very involved in making these ones! I brought some basic supplies in to the living room and Piper helped me make this card, and then insisted in making a card all by herself! It was so adorable and I sure was one proud mumma! I may have given a little creative direction, but she did all the sticking by herself! 😀

Here’s the card from Craig and I

And here’s is Piper’s finished card

And saving the best til last… look at the concentration

and the HUGE grin! 😀

I love my crafty girl!   xx

Merry Christmas everyone!

Santa will be here shortly, but i thought i would jump on a share a Christmas craftiness with you all. This is the kinda Christmas Card that is a result of a little messiness, a little craftiness, a little digi scrapbooking and a little online retail therapy. Sounds like a long drawn out process, but it wasn’t really, i promise.

Here’s our Christmas card from this year. Do you like it?

So, firstly I must ask…Do you get it? The more people i ask, the more i realise that it perhaps isn’t immediately obvious. If you don’t get it, please proceed to standing on your head, look again and then tell me what you see?

Okay, to put you out of your misery..its Piper’s handprint, made into a reindeer. Get it now?

We had a little play with paint in November and once dry, i took one of her brown handprints and stole it away into my crafty lair. I then used a Quickutz reindeer die to cut out two antlers and ears and stuck these on to the paper. Then i added a pompom nose and some goggly eyes, and used a needle to sew a piece of thread through as a tail. Next I took some photos using my camera.

Next stop was importing a photo and using photoshop to crop around it. In fact the tools in photoshop did all the work, the only part i had to be careful with was around the goggly eyes as it didn’t pick up the glossy section.

I then took a look through my digital scrapbook supplies and pulled a few into photoshop, layering and altering as i went to create a background for this little fella.

(A little disclaimer: I am afraid i am unable to name all the digi supplies used, as when our hard drive crashed, the recovered files did not retain their original names, so I don’t know where they are from. 🙁  sorry you guys)

Next stop was printing. I had the most bother with this part. I looked online, but each site had different rules for sizes etc, and the cost per printed folded card was ridiculous, and then i asked a local print shop to provide a quote. It was still working out too pricy, especially when you add 50p postage for the price of stamps on each one. In the end I printed these with photobox as a standard 6×4″ print, and i wrote a message on the back with an ultra fine sharpie pen. For a few of the more ‘traditional’ recipients I actually cut around the border and stuck it down onto a card blank.

I’m really happy with the way they turned out…but to be honest, i would be happier if people actually figured out that it was piper’s handprint! LOL. Ah well, never mind, its Christmas!!

Have a great day everyone, and I hope Santa comes to each and every one of you!

A Pretty, Pearly Pink Snowflake

Oh whats this?  Christmas crafting? Yes, this IS the same person that was showing you a beach mini book in the last post! It just goes to show how drastically i can fluctuate between crafty moods.

To be honest, it was about time that i did some Christmassy crafting, I’ve been waiting for Crimbo for so long this year! And now we are in the final count down! Woohoo!

I picked up a new embossing folder from craft superstore.co.uk when i was buying another 12×12 album, its called Jo’s Circles and was only £2! I thought it looked kinda like snowflakes but it also be used for other non-seasonal stuff.

I cut some bazzill cardstock, ran it through my cuttlebug to test out the first embossed impression and admired the beautiful design. I then lay it on the desk and reached for my ribbon. The cat was miaowing at the door, so i let her inside turned and grabbed some pearlescent pink paper. When i returned to my table, there were three perfectly formed brown paw prints over my nice newly embossed cardstock!!! Darn it! Ihateitwhenthathappens!! D’OH! After chasing the cat, I turned the image over and used that side instead! hahaha. No one would have ever known!

I always return to this beautiful Quickutz snowflake die. Its so delicate and pretty, i love it! and the pearl paper makes it look stunning. A little pearl in the middle was another delicate final touch, as well as the little charms (which i think are from my meiflower.co.uk stash).

Hope you are in the festive mood now too!
