I am super late in posting this card. I made it at Phil’s request as a Valentines card for his gf Kat. It was only when i was uploading the photos that i realised that is doesn’t look specifically Valentinesy (yes, i just made up that word! Whatcha gonna do about it!?).
I ordered some goodies from theribbonreel.co.uk a little while back and one of the items i got was these small circular doilies. Crafters are starting to branch out into the world of doilies and coffee filters and other such everyday things to add to their projects, so i couldn’t resist giving them a try. I thought that i might pick up a doily shaped die so i could cut my own, but at 50p for a pack of 10, this route was more appealing to my bank balance.
I had SOOOOO much fun making this card. Do you ever make a card and then afterwards kinda wish it was you that was receiving it! LOL. Well, thats my confession, i kinda felt like that with this card.
The colours are bright and fun, and did i mention b.r.i.g.h.t. {xoxo} 🙂
The rosette was cut using a metal die and the negative had a really cool zigzag edge, so rather than throwing it away i incorporated it into the design. You can see it used as a funky border on the photo below.
To add a looove feel, hearts were required. I thought i might find some heart shaped buttons but they were all too big and imposing, so instead i cut out some hearts from shrink plastic and blasted them with my heat gun. I used Glossy Accents to stick them to the card as it dries clear.
I used my machine to sew around the outside of the card, leaving a gap near the hearts so the eye would be drawn to this area.
And below…proof on the inside that it was a Valentines Day card.
Good morning, good morning! Did you have a wonderful weekend? Ours was fun, we went to soft play to celebrate Mackenzie’s first birthday. Pam and I were due on the same date, but as fate would have it, Mackenzie arrived early and Piper arrived late so there are three weeks between Mac and Pi. Here’s my little bear and big bear having lots of fun! For today’s MAN-day Monday card I want to share the birthday card I made for Mackenzie’s first birthday. We also have a video tutorial of how i made this card which is available for our members to watch. If you haven’t signed up to be a member yet, click on the sign up tab at the top right. This is how you access all the downloadable content such as this video and other digital elements which you can use for your crafty projects. {note this is different from becoming a newsletter subscriber, but whilst you’re at it, you might as well do that too!} So here it is, Happy Birthday Mac! And thanks for the invite to the party I had lots of fun, errr, i mean, Piper had lots of fun! Thanks for popping by and don’t forget to check out the video. Products Used
Another Monday morning = another MAN-day Monday. Thanks for joining me today.
I know things have gotten slow and i’m really sorry about that. Working full time and being a mom doesn’t leave me as much time in my life for crafting. I’m ok with that, because i am just so thankful that i still get a little time to do the things i love. The good news…we have managed to get a new laptop! Yippppeeeeee! That was really the big thing that was slowing me down, as my ‘craft table to website’ workflow wasn’t as streamlined as i needed it to be.
I have been being crafty, and eventually i’ll get to tell you all about the things i’ve been making- when i get a chance to photograph them all. AND, i even went to the Craft Show in Farnborough at the weekend, watch this space for a video of my purchases! 🙂
Right…on to MAN-day Monday!
This card has a little back-story….
Last week I had a wonderful surprise at work.
One of our Regular Meeting Room hosts was in the centre one Monday morning last month and asked me what i did at the weekend. I was telling him about the NCT Nearly New Sale that i went to, trying to get stocked up on 12-18 month clothes for Piper. At nursery they are always playing with chocolate pudding or flour or paint or some other messy stuff, so I don’t want to pay a fortune for clothes that will get ruined, and lots of the clothes at the Nearly New sales are almost like brand new.
So then…last week I arrived at work to find a big bag by my desk, brimming with pink and red fabrics. I couldn’t believe it! Dear sweet Simon had raided the closest of his daughter to clear out the clothes that she had outgrown. What a sweetheart! I was so excited i had to look through them all at work and then again when i got home. {It won’t be long until I need to refresh the wardrobe again, just a few weeks until the big O.N.E.!}
So I needed a extra special Thank You card with a masculine feel, and here it is. I chose grey for a cool, professional, masculine fee – I think this paper reminds me of a pin stripe suit! The white twill and embossed greeting gives a lovely contrast with the background and adds a little interest and texture to the simple card. The flag – well that bit was just for fun!
