So, i have only just realised that this is a raccoon. I think! For ages i thought this cute critter was a skunk – but today when i looked at the photo, it made total sense that it was a raccoon, not a skunk! Either way, i think he is pretty cute!

And mister Raccoon has a message of thanks for the recipient of this card. For the word thanks, i cut the message out of funky foam (craft foam) using a paper smooches die – i was surprised how easily this cut, and i think it gives a wonderful dimension to the card. I kinda like the way it feels really smooth too. I used Ranger multi medium in matte to stick it to a pink piece of card that i die cut using the Paper Smooches Quotables die.

For the card itself i used a little bit of tumbled glass blue distress ink for the sky, but its hard to see in the photo. At the bottom i created stitched lines with the stitched border dies and added some shabby shutters distress ink to make a grassy area.

My stripy tailed friend is from an old stamp set from Hampton Art called Warm Fuzzies, and he has been coloured using spectrum noir pencils and blending solution.

I also added a few vellum clouds, die cut from the MFT flat bottom clouds dies, and stuck these down using a zig glue pen. Sorry its hard to see clearly in the photo. To add a finishing touch, i embellished with a few pink die cut hearts using the SSS mini hearts die set.

From me, and mister raccoon…thanks for stopping by!

Monkey In The Clouds {video}

Firstly, THANK YOU to everyone who has shown love on Instagram. You all make me smile!
🙂

When i finally jumped onto the copic marker bandwagon, i was desperate to try them out on the Mama Elephant stamps – i am in love with their critters! This little guy was my first attempt- it took me ages, because i was so cautious and pernickety, but i think he was worth it in the end. I love how he turned out!

I made a quick video to showcase how i made the card for this little guy – its a bit short, and rather fast paced, pretty much because Piper and Craig came into the craft room and started chatting so i had to edit some bits out. Watch out for the sudden appearance of a Piper picked gift on the desk!

Enjoy the video, and please give me a thumbs up if you like it.

I used a selection of stamps from hero arts, wplus9 and mama elephant for this card, as well as dies from mama elephant and lawn fawn. These two companies are by far my most favourite manufacturers at the moment! LOVE ‘EM!

Thanks for stopping by – Have a great day!

Using Glossy Accents As A Mask

I have been wanting to get my greedy paws on some masking fluid, so i went online, ordered it, got so excited about the possibilities that i started planning a card, and THEN, totally found a work around!

With Masking fluid, you don’t have to cut around post it notes, or teeny images if you want to stamp or ink on top- you simply ‘paint’ on a liquid, let it dry and then stamp on top. The top surface is rubbery, and can be simply erased or peeled off when you are done. When mine arrives in the post, i am sure i will share some projects with you.

However, i decided that i would try to use glossy accents to ‘mask’ an image, then ink the background.

The little girl is from My Favorite Things, i stamped and coloured her using colouring pencils. When i was happy with her, i covered her in glossy accents and left her to dry overnight.
I am the WORST person when it comes to sticking your finger into half dry glossy accents – i have learnt the hard way to move on to something else, then go back the next day.

After she was dry, i secured the panel to a craft sheet, and added some Distress Ink in Cracked pistachio colour and a little Everygreen Bough, using a mini ink blending foam tool. To add some texture, i spritzed the ink with some water to get some cool water droplet effects.

The ink did go over the glossy accents, but because it is a non-porous surface, i simply took a paper towel and wiped it away. Good as new.

To finish the card, i simply added an embossed greeting to the top.

I like how this turned out, but the girl still has a glossy sheen. With masking fluid, you would not get this in the final product, but i don’t think that really matters. The glossy sheen just makes the girl stand out even more on the final card.

I hope you might give it a try too!
